Waldorf Academy seeks a warm, enthusiastic, and dedicated Kindergarten Assistant to join our vibrant Early Childhood faculty. The ideal candidate will support the lead teacher in nurturing a calm, rhythmical environment grounded in Waldorf principles and contribute to a strong collegial and parent community.
Qualifications & Attributes:
- Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) or Waldorf Early Childhood Training preferred
- VSC, CPR and First Aid certification (required)
- Knowledge of Waldorf education and child development (strongly preferred)
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Gentle and observant disposition; able to support both lead teacher and individual children with care and insight
- Ability to support and supervise students with emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges
General Skills:
- Singing, storytelling, handwork, crafting, cooking, nature walks, seasonal celebrations
- Love for the natural world and a reverence for childhood
- Aesthetic sensitivity in maintaining classroom beauty and order
- Commitment to professional growth and collaborative teamwork
- Excellent classroom management skills and discipline approaches that are appropriate to the age group and the Waldorf philosophy
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher with the daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythm of the Waldorf Kindergarten
- Model healthy imitation and reverence in all interactions
- Assist in creating a warm, nurturing, and structured classroom environment
- Help maintain a safe and sanitary classroom space
- Participate in school festivals (e.g., Maypole, Lantern Walk, Winter Fair) and events
- Attend weekly faculty meetings and school professional development days
- Attend parent evenings to support the lead teacher
- Commit to learning more about Waldorf pedagogy (including summer training opportunities)
- Provide camp programming on Parent-Teacher Conference days
- Meet regularly with the lead teacher for mentoring
