Maintenance Worker/Lead Hand

Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, Town of Witless Bay, is seeking a Maintenance Worker/Lead Hand to join their team in Witless Bay, Newfoundland.

Position Summary

The Town of Witless Bay is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Worker/Lead Hand to join the team in the Town. In collaboration with other Town staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations, public works and general repairs of various municipal facilities and infrastructure. This position reports directly to the CAO and may, at times, be required to supervise the Maintenance Laborer or summer students. This is a unionized role and will be a full-time permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grounds within the town (brush cutting, mowing, planting, etc.
  • Town infrastructure general repairs (including facilities, grounds, equipment, roads, storm systems, recreation facilities, trails, etc.)
  • Equipment and tool maintenance and repair
  • Garbage collection from all town receptacles
  • Repair & maintenance of town signage
  • Prioritizing tasks, confirming material availability for job completion, and ensuring machinery and equipment is properly maintained
  • Facility maintenance (general repairs, painting, carpentry, limited plumbing, etc.)
  • Snow removal for entryways and walkways (call-ins expected outside of normal working hours)
  • Work with Town contractors to execute various public works projects
  • Weekly vehicles inspections
  • Follow safety procedures as per OHS regulations as well as Town policies and procedures.
  • Training as required
  • Assisting with other duties related to the position

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 NL Driver's License with clear driver's abstract
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and complete manual labor tasks

Salary & Benefits:

  • $25.82/hour for 37.5 hours per week.
  • The hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
  • Eligible for Employee benefits as outlined in Collective Agreement
  • Work may-be required outside of the hours specified above and will be subject to the terms of the Collective Agreement
