Building Construction Manager - Mpumalanga
Job Description:
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Manager is responsible for onsite management of contractors, planning, budgeting, safety, supervising, and coordinating all aspects of the project. The role involves communicating and reporting work progress to clients, selecting and scheduling work with vendors, suppliers, and contractors, ensuring construction activities comply with laws and regulations, and responding to emergencies and delays.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate advanced knowledge of construction management processes, expertise in delivering quality projects, familiarity with all facets of the construction process, and the ability to plan and maintain a big-picture perspective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure project completion on time and within budget.
- Coordinate construction scheduling and communication; act as liaison regarding progress and delays.
- Collaborate with technicians, engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Consolidate reports, project timelines, and status updates for the project manager.
- Track progress of materials, suppliers, tools, machinery, and vehicles.
- Perform regular site observations and provide guidance to contractors.
- Lead weekly contractor meetings to enhance communication and resolve issues.
- Conduct routine quality audits and initiate corrective actions.
- Implement systems to improve efficiency and reduce project duration, ensuring timely site inspections.
- Carry out site inspections, technical drawing reviews, and quality control.
- Define, agree upon, and enforce quality standards.
- Check technical work and advise on technical design solutions.
- Monitor progress against schedules and prioritize work tasks.
- Inspect completed work for accuracy and compliance.
- Instruct on safety procedures, check Daily Safety Task Instructions (DSTIs), and attend toolbox talks.
- Conduct daily site inspections and participate in monthly VFL (Visible Felt Leadership) walks.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Registered with SACPMP as a Construction Manager (advantageous).
- Knowledge of OHS Act, MHS Act.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Minimum of 15 years' experience as a Construction Manager.
- Experience in constructing commercial and industrial structures (advantageous).
