We are looking for a mechanical engineer to join our team full-time in Stellenbosch, and to help build world class satellite control systems. The products we build are a complex mix of electronic, electromagnetic, mechanical, optic, firmware, software, control systems, and mathematical model design.

We are looking for people who think out of the box, solve multidisciplinary problems, can work well in a team, and have a passion for design.

As a mechanical engineer in CubeSpace, it will be your responsibility to design test jigs, support equipment, specialised tooling and enclosures and support for products. These designs will also have to be qualified for the space environment, especially vibration-, hock- and thermal vacuum testing. This role will also be heavily involved with third-party suppliers to have parts made to specification. The ideal candidate will be a highly efficient individual that can take responsibility and be a proactive contributor to the team, a passionate mechanical engineer who enjoys getting their hands dirty, with a practical approach.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis
• Generate design documentation
• Finite element analysis
• Design for manufacture
• Generate CAD and drawings
• Conduct or guide engineers in environmental tests
• Review and create documentation
• Participate in design reviews, technical risk analysis, troubleshooting and investigations to proactively solve complex problems
• Integrate electronics and mechanics at the system and product level
• Contribute toward mechanical development process improvement activities
• Liaise and collaborate with various engineering teams
• Take part in guiding manufacturing
• Design and maintain test setups and infrastructure
• Create and maintain product-level documentation and other supporting documents as required

Requirements

• University Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 3+ Years experience in the aerospace, machinery, heavy machinery or defense industries.
• At least 2 years experience designing with CAD
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Ability to multi-task, self-organise, and prioritise work independently
• Good organisational and administrative ability
• Exposure to Inventor, Ansys, Python, Matlab, FEA
• Adaptable to change
• Great attention to detail
