Job summary
A leading healthcare organization in Vanderbijlpark seeks a professional to implement and maintain an Infection Prevention and Control programme. Responsibilities include identifying and managing IPC risks, interpreting clinical data, ensuring compliance with standards, and supporting patient safety initiatives. Candidates must have a nursing qualification and 3-5 years of professional experience in a hospital environment, including IPC-related work. This position offers a dynamic work environment focused on quality improvement and team collaboration.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner.
- 1-2 years IPC related work, with supervision of a small team.
Responsibilities
- Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control.
- Investigate, analyze and interpret clinical data and act upon findings.
- Ensure adherence to statutory bodies.
- Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material.
- Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply to IPC policies and principles.
- Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager.
- Continuous professional development.

Education
To ensure the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at the hospital level
- Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control

Essential Education: Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)
Desired Education: Formal IPC course / Post Graduate diploma in IPC
Essential Minimum Experience: 3-5 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner
Desired Experience: 1 – 2 years IPC related work, supervision of a small team
- Conducting a system analysis of healthcare, associated infections and institute preventative measures
- Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
- Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
- IPC surveillance and risk identification
- Report writing skills
- Identification; investigation and management of outbreaks
- Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards
- Knowledge and experience in quality improvement methodology
