The Palatine Ward is a joint collaboration between the haematology and transplant service and the teenage and young adult (TYA) service, providing high-quality care for adult patients with haematological malignancies and TYA (16-24 years old) patients with all types of cancers. We also treat paediatric patients receiving radioiodine treatment.

We are a 31-bedded ward, with all rooms being en-suite side rooms, including specialist HEPA side rooms for isolating severely immunocompromised patients. Additionally, we have a specialist room for radioiodine radiotherapy treatments. The ward is JACIE accredited and regularly performs autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants. We offer innovative treatments such as CAR T-cell therapy, supported by comprehensive training including the UKONS certificate for systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) and patient care during SACT. Our Clinical Practice Facilitator team (CPF) supports your education and development, ensuring full support during your orientation and beyond.

The Christie is a research-active institution, offering opportunities to support patients on clinical trials. We emphasize teamwork, working in small groups to provide 24-hour holistic care, including therapy administration, symptom control, sepsis treatment, and overall patient well-being.

As a nurse on The Palatine Ward, you will monitor patients closely, perform clinical observations, manage fluid balance, and escalate concerns appropriately. Your role will involve administering medications via various routes and monitoring their effects. Training will be provided to develop competence in accessing central lines like Hickman and PICC lines, and in delivering SACT, including oral, sub-cut, IV infusion, or bolus administration. As your role progresses, you may undertake stem cell re-infusion and CAR T-cell administration, overseeing the conditioning process required for these therapies.

We seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated nurse with excellent time management, interpersonal, and communication skills, and a keen interest in Haematology and TYA Oncology. We will support your development through supernumerary practice, a comprehensive in-house training package, support from the CPF team, and ongoing peer coaching and mentorship.
