Job summary

An award-winning educational institution in Leeds is seeking a dedicated support staff member to assist students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will provide classroom support, use intervention techniques, and help students integrate with their peers. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in education, excellent communication skills, and relevant qualifications. 29.5 hours per week x 38 weeks

Overview

Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they fully integrate with mainstream peers.
  • Use intervention techniques to address emotional and behavioural issues.
  • Support the learning, achievement and progression of vulnerable SEND students both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Develop supportive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries and reinforcing student self-esteem.
  • Work under the direction of the class tutor and use own initiative when appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Previous experience working with young people in an educational capacity.
  • Strong understanding of EHCPs and SEND.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting students with different learning needs to become independent.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have 5 GCSEs (A*-C) including English Language and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Experience assisting students with learning difficulties and disabilities; experience in the FE sector is an advantage.
Training and Development

Training will be provided as part of your induction. Additional training is available on a range of difficulties such as dyslexia and ADHD.
