Jobbeschreibung

Crew, The National Videogame Museum

Description

The National Videogame Museum is looking for up to three enthusiastic and friendly members of Crew to provide the very best experience for our visitors and provide excellent customer service skills. We require personable crew members who can encourage our diverse audiences to engage with our exhibitions, respond to visitor queries, and keep all spaces within the Museum clean and tidy.

Our Mission

The NVM is funded by The BGI (registered charity 1183530). We inspire everyone to play, collaborate and learn through our unique galleries, our multi-award winning learning programme and our vocational work. Our independent and diverse team of staff, trustees and advisory board works to:

● Create unique interactive exhibitions about games culture

● Inspire thousands of schoolchildren in engaging workshops

● Reveal careers in the UK’s fastest growing creative industry

● Encourage everyone to play and make games

We believe that videogames are for everyone. Forever.

Working at The NVM

We are a small, hardworking team of creative problem solvers who believe in crafting fun and educational experiences that enrich our different communities’ lives. We are passionate about our art form, but do not expect everyone to have a deep knowledge of videogames. We’re adaptable and open to new ideas and committed to diversity and inclusion in everything we do.

Details

Job Title:Crew

Department: Visitor Experience

Accountable to: Venue Supervisor and Director of Visitor Experience

Location: The National Videogame Museum, Castle House, Angel Street, Sheffield, S3 8LN

Hours: Casual, minimum of 4 hours per week, mixture of weekdays and weekends. Additional hours may be offered especially during school holidays

Salary: National Minimum Wage (additional fee for Duty Manager responsibilities)

About the Role

The NVM is looking for a personable crew member who can encourage our diverse audiences to engage with our exhibitions, respond to visitor queries, and keep all spaces within the Museum clean and tidy. Whilst an interest in videogames would be desirable, we are primarily interested in your ability to engage our audiences in conversation and play, as well as your experience providing a high level of customer service. Some technical experience with computers and audio-visual equipment would be desirable, however, induction and ongoing support for exhibits will be provided. We sometimes require staffing at short notice, therefore a Sheffield location would be beneficial.

Duties include:

● Providing excellent customer service throughout the venue

● Welcoming and introducing visitors to the NVM at the Reception Desk

● Cash handling, selling tickets and retail products

● Restocking the shop as required

● Supervising play in the galleries and ensuring visitors have a positive, memorable experience

● Responding to visitor enquiries and providing information about the NVM’s current exhibitions via telephone, email, and face-to-face

● Ensuring visitors conduct themselves in a way that promotes their own safety, the safety of other visitors and staff, and the security of our collection

● Ensuring controllers and playable elements of our museum are kept clean and tidy

● Keeping the venue clean and tidy including the gallery, reception, shop, party area, toilets, entrance and external areas

● Resetting games as required

● Logging technical faults

● Carrying out basic troubleshooting of exhibits (ongoing training and support will be provided)

● Supporting Learning Activities and Private Events as required

● You may be asked to perform other duties as reasonably required to assist in the smooth running of the museum

Skills:

● Friendly approach to working with a range of people, e.g. general public, children, and families

● Excellent and adaptable communication and interpersonal abilities, tailored to address diverse needs across all levels, creating possibilities for individuals who may not identify as traditional videogamers

● High quality of customer service

● Keen team player who enjoys working with and supporting others

● Solution focused approach to working, with confidence to respond to challenges effectively

● Able to comply with all NVM policies and procedures

● Reliable, with excellent time management

● Responsible, and able to work alone and as part of a team

● Willingness and enthusiasm to learn technical skills to troubleshoot exhibits

● Familiarity with the guiding principles of the NVM, and a readiness to champion and manifest our ethos; Videogames are for everyone. Forever.

Duty Manager Responsibilities

When the Venue Supervisor is not on-site, there is need for a member of Crew to assume a more senior role and take on additional responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and effective leadership:

● Key holder responsibilities

● Cashing up, including depositing money into the safe

● Conducting safety protocols, e.g. ensuring fire exits are clear prior to opening, and ensuring Crew sign in and out on Slack

● Implementing emergency response procedures, e.g. fire procedures

● Supervising, coordinating and supporting Crew, including receiving staff illness reports and putting shifts to cover on shift swap on the Slack channel

● Responding to more complex visitor enquiries via telephone, email, and face-to-face, escalating where necessary

● Any other duties as reasonably required to assist in the smooth running of the museum

Applications should be emailed in the form of a CV and supporting statement (this can be in your format of choice whether written, visual or video) to jobs@thenvm.org with the subject: “Crew (your full name)”

The deadline for applications is Friday 16th May at 5pm

Interviews will be held at the NVM within two weeks of the deadline.
