Senior Project Manager

The Capital, Estates and Facilities Directorate are seeking to recruit a qualified Senior Project Manager with experience of working in a healthcare environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of a team on a wide range of challenging capital projects.

The successful applicant will work within the Capital Planning and Development Team, working alongside a dedicated team of project and engineering managers, clerk of works and support staff.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Senior Project Manager is to support theCapital Projects and Development Manager, in close cooperation with other Estates Officers in the delivery ofcapital projects within the Estates & Facilities Directorate.

The post holder will form part of a multi-disciplined team whose role is to provide the best possibleservice to Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will have bothgroup and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service but will ensure theircontribution is beneficial to other departments within the Trust, as well as the Capital Planning andDevelopment team so as to fulfil the Trust's overall objectives.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Post graduate certificate or evidence of CPD in highly specialised project management i.e. PRINCE2
  • Record of continuous development
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working within the NHS or health sector in a project management related capacity
  • Experience of NHS capital and construction project management in a large complex acute hospital / organisation
  • Experience of effective implementation of complex multidisciplinary estates related projects.
  • Experience of procuring construction & refurbishment work
  • Experience of procuring consultants and suppliers
  • Experience of managing external building contractors
  • Demonstrable management of external advisory consultants as part of a project team
  • Evidenced portfolio of previous capital project work with proven record
  • Experience of managing projects through the full project lifecycle
  • Experience of managing external building contractors within a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of building contract documentation and procurement routes
Knowledge
  • An evidenced understanding of the use of clinical output specifications and function contents required for acute hospital planning.
  • Awareness of the application of Health Technical Memorandum & Health Building Notes within a healthcare environment.
  • A robust and evidenced understanding of the NHS Estates Capital Investment Manual with particular focus on Project Organisation, Management of Construction Projects, Commissioning a Health Care Facility.
  • Understanding of clinical relationships/adjacencies within a hospital facility with demonstration of recognised significance of support services, patient experience, consumerism and stakeholder (including patient) consultation.
Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural design layouts
  • Ability to plan, organise and deliver multi-stranded projects.
  • Ability to work without constant direct supervision using own initiative within a constantly changing and demanding work environment.
  • Ability to manage own and others work load, using own initiative, as well as being part of a team.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to prioritise and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Lateral thinker with excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills across a wide spectrum of staff groups
  • Excellent report writing, verbal and presentation skills
  • Highly developed organisational and planning ability
  • Evidenced facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to use computer software to create project reports, documents, drawings and other project information with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to assess complex situations and prioritise
  • Ability to present multi-stranded project, design, financial and contractual information to a variety of project stakeholders.
