Leonardo offers an exciting opportunity to join our Commercial team within the Electronic Warfare Line of Business, a major growth area with ambitious targets in the short to medium term. You will join a friendly and effective team with an exceptional record of development and advancement.

Leonardo is seeking an ambitious Commercial Manager to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment within the Surveillance and Protection Technologies (S&PT) sector of the Electronic Warfare (EW) division. Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial S&PT, the role involves interfacing with a variety of domestic and international customers and supporting integrated project teams (IPTs). Responsibilities include maintaining current contracts and developing commercial bids/proposals, providing strategic and sound commercial guidance on key contracts and opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in business winning and contract/programme management within the Aerospace and Defence Sector, and experience working in a fast-paced, challenging environment. Experience with UK Government and international contracts is preferred.

This role is perfect for someone looking to advance their career in Commercial, leading bids and managing contracts for key programmes, products, and customers.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Providing strategic oversight for key contracts and bid activities within the S&PT sector, including opportunities within the Integrated Defensive Aids System IPT.
  2. Acting as deputy or delegate to the Head of Commercial for S&PT management activities.
  3. Supporting and guiding junior team members.
  4. Drafting, negotiating, and managing complex contract terms and conditions, including flow-down orders to European partners.
  5. Developing and briefing clear commercial strategies to optimize outcomes for Leonardo UK.
  6. Leading in correspondence, stakeholder engagement, and agreement drafting (e.g., MoUs, NDAs, collaboration agreements).
  7. Providing commercial leadership and administration, including change management and risk monitoring.
  8. Producing accurate customer pricing based on appropriate strategies.
  9. Representing Leonardo at customer/supplier meetings.
  10. Preparing proposals and internal documentation for bid approval.
  11. Ensuring compliance with processes and procedures, and managing internal approvals.
  12. Building and maintaining beneficial relationships with colleagues, customers, and partners.
  13. Supporting winning new business and managing current contracts within the project team.
  14. Managing workload, priorities, and stakeholder expectations effectively.

Qualifications and soft skills include:

  • Degree or professional qualification (e.g., IACCM/WCC) and defence contracting experience.
  • Understanding of Leonardo’s markets, products, customers, and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Defence Contracting under the Defence Reform Act.
  • Promotion of best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas.

Candidate qualities:

  • Ability to advocate at senior levels and prepare senior briefs.
  • Skill in managing complex commercial strategies and relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset.
  • Capable of deputising and managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong understanding of business finance, contract law, and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in MS Office.
  • Desire for self-improvement and learning.
