HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Crown Court Admin Officers are responsible for management of criminal digital files in preparation for hearings, including correspondence and general enquiries. The Crown office handles enquiries from criminal justice agencies, solicitors, barristers and the public via post, email, telephone and face to face. You will deal with a full range of serious criminal work as well as management of jurors. You will be assigned to teams to carry out a variety of general administrative duties to progress cases through the court/tribunal system or provide support to other functions within HMCTS.
With a friendly and approachable manner, you’ll have excellent attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills. You have a desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers by phone and email. You’ll be skilled in organising your time, prioritising efficiently, able to multi-task and adapt to using various software packages. You’ll enjoy working in a busy environment and helping court users navigate the justice system.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public. Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing patterns, and these will be considered in accordance with the MoJ Flexible Working policy. If applying for part-time, minimum hours would be 30 per week over 5 days.
Skilled Worker Visa From 22 July 2025, the Government increased the salary threshold and skills level for Skilled Worker visas. This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for sponsorship for first-time Skilled Worker visa applicants. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, please raise this during vetting checks as eligibility will be assessed according to current immigration rules and transitional provisions. The MoJ offers Hybrid Working where business need allows. This is informal, non-contractual flexible working blending base location, other MoJ sites and/or home. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles may not be suitable for Hybrid Working; arrangements will be discussed and agreed with successful candidates and reviewed regularly.
For nationally advertised roles: successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office to their home postcode and on its pay scale (HQ, Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office). All employees are expected to spend 60% of working time in an office, subject to capacity. For current MoJ employees, base location may change accordingly. Some MoJ terms and conditions are changing as part of Civil Service reform.
