General Description

The purpose of this class is to provide grounds, building and equipment maintenance of county parks facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Opens and closes park gates; raises and lowers flags.
• Operates a truck with trailer to transport personnel and equipment.
• Cleans park restrooms.
• Picks up trash; empties trash barrels; cleans grills and tables.
• Inspects benches and tables.
• Maintains park lawns and landscaping; mows, edges and trims grass; prunes trees and shrubs.
• Maintains and services equipment.
• Provides information and assistance to park patrons.
• Supervises and coordinates the work of full-time parks crew and community service personnel.
• Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies and tools; distributes cleaning supplies to parks as needed.
• Able to report regularly for work and be on time.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Requires six months of experience operating small engine equipment, providing ground and/or building maintenance or closely related experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is typically performed outdoors intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

The work is typically performed outdoors; possibly in cold and inclement weather. The employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, eye protection, gloves, etc.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
