At the Faculty of Chemical and Geosciences, the Collaborative Research Center 1127 ChemBioSys at the Chair of Organic Chemistry I and the Research Group Chemical Ecology of Cross Kingdom Interactions have an immediate vacancy for a

Research Scientist for Chemical Algal Mediators

to be filled on a part-time and temporary basis (65% / 26 hours per week) until June 30, 2026.

The focus of the interdisciplinary subproject A01 is on active and functional studies of algal growth and differentiation promoting factors released by the associated bacteria using chemical analytical and bio(an)organic working methods (see, e.g., Alsufyani et al., J. Exp. Bot. 2020, 71, 3340 and Dhiman et al. 2022, Angew. Chem. Int. ed. 134 : e202206746). In particular, the hormone-like substance thallusin and its derivatives will be characterized with special reference to their iron complexes.

Your responsibilities :

• Planning and experimental implementation of project aspects, interdisciplinary collaboration with biological project partners, reporting and communication in SFB 1127.
• Generate scientific output in the form of publications, posters, presentations, and dissertations, including participation in national / international conferences.
• Participate in a scientific team focused on analytical chemistry and chemical ecology.
• Work on scientific qualification, for example doctorate.

Your profile :

• A university degree in science (M.Sc. or equivalent) in chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, or comparable.
• Solid laboratory experience in instrumental analysis, bio(in)organic chemistry and / or biochemistry.
• You bring knowledge of mass spectrometry, atomic spectroscopy or chromatographic methods.
• Experience with electrochemical analytical methods and / or cultivation techniques of algae and bacteria is desirable.
• Above average commitment, flexibility and ability to work in a team and independently.
• Very good knowledge of German and / or English.

Your employment is limited until June 30, 2026. This is a part-time position at the rate of 65% (26 hours per week).
