Job description
Job Description

Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.

This is a regular, full-time role.

You will be working on a flexible hybrid schedule as part of Fidelity’s dynamic working arrangement.

Company Overview

At Fidelity, we’ve been helping Canadian investors build better financial futures for over 35 years. We offer individuals and institutions a range of trusted investment portfolios and services - and we’re constantly seeking to find new and better ways to help our clients. As a privately owned company, we boldly embrace innovation in all areas as we continue to grow our business into the future.

Working with us means you’ll be part of a diverse and dedicated group of people who make a real difference for our clients and communities every day. You’ll have a wide range of opportunities to grow and develop your career in an inclusive environment where you’ll feel valued and supported to be your best - both personally and professionally.

The Opportunity

As a Director, Institutional Private Assets you will cultivate relationships with the research teams and field offices of investment consultants to elevate Fidelity’s institutional brand and develop conviction in our alternative investing capabilities. Your coverage remit will focus on alternative investment consulting specialists but will also extend to the alternative research groups at traditional consultants. Additionally, you will help with distribution team as a subject matter expert. Ideal candidates will have established relationships at these consultants and a background in selling or covering strategies in alternative assets classes.

What You’ll Do

  1. Develop engagement strategies for consultants under their purview outlining growth opportunities for our alternative/private asset (i.e. direct lending and credit alternative products) and identifying gating issues that need to be addressed to develop and/or deepen relationships with consultants.
  2. Work with our Investment Portfolio Managers and sales teams to act as an alternative specialist, understand pricing structures and outline current product structures for different customer types.
  3. Lead the process for consultants’ review and underwriting of Fidelity strategies including the coordination of RFP responses, due diligence meetings, investment reviews, etc.
  4. Serve as an internal spokesperson and proponent for consultants under your purview; provide consultant feedback to internal partners.
  5. Develop opportunities for thought leadership content creation and distribution including partnering with marketing to develop white papers, case studies, trickle marketing campaigns, and press releases.
  6. Collaborate with marketing and sales to sponsor consultant-focused events such as roundtable discussions, webinars, and conferences.

What We’re Looking For

  1. 7+ years working with institutional investment consultants and/or experience working with alternatives in product development, relationship management, and sales.
  2. University degree or related field or equivalent experience.
  1. Designations such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Masters of Business Administration (MBA)/Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) are an asset.
  2. Experience in the private markets industry, including hedge funds, real estate, Private Debt, BDC’s, and Direct Lending; liquid alternatives a plus.
  3. Outstanding partnership skills and ability to partner across portfolio managers, product development, senior managers, legal and compliance, and salespeople across various coverage areas, among others.
  4. Demonstrated credibility in influencing, selling and developing business within the investment management sectors or related financial services clients.
  5. Ability to develop and deliver effective and organized communication in written and verbal form to senior audiences with appropriate persuasiveness and sensitivity.
  6. An entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to delivering long-term results.

Some of the ways we’ll help you feel valued and supported as part of our team:

  1. Flexible working arrangements - 100% remote, hybrid, and in-office options.
  2. Competitive total compensation, including company contributions to your group RRSP without a matching requirement from you.
  3. Comprehensive health benefits that start on your first day, with 100% employer-paid premiums, that include up to $5000 annually for mental health services and therapy.
  4. Parental leave top-up to 100% of your salary for a period of 25 weeks.
  5. Up to $650 for home office equipment.
  6. Generous time off policy, including 2 paid days annually to volunteer at a charity of your choice.
  7. Diversity and inclusion programs, including an active network of Employee Resource Groups.
  8. Extensive professional development opportunities, including access to over 11,000 training and development courses, tuition reimbursement, and monetary rewards for completing a required designation.
  9. We care a lot about fostering a compassionate, people-centric culture and are proud to have been named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers for the last five years.
