Analyst, Geoscience, Innovation and Health & Safety

PDAC works with its stakeholders to ensure that the materials needed to drive innovation and build a sustainable future are available for to come. Currently representing over 8,000 members around the world, we are proud to host the award winning PDAC Convention, the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining event. Held annually in Toronto, this prestigious event, attracts over 27,000 participants from more than 130 countries. The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Policy and Programs, the Analyst, Geoscience Innovation, Health and Safety supports PDAC's advocacy and program development efforts aimed at expanding the availability and use of public geoscience information, advancing critical minerals strategies, and accelerating the adoption of innovation in mineral exploration. The role involves collaboration with members, stakeholders, government partners, and contributes to the delivery of key initiatives and resources.

What You Will Do:

Committee Leadership

The Analyst oversees the Geoscience & Innovation and Health & Safety committees, ensuring their priorities align with PDAC’s strategic goals. This includes managing meeting logistics and materials, recruiting and engaging committee members, and leading the development of health and safety programming for the PDAC Convention.

Research & Policy Development

This role involves monitoring and analyzing developments related to geoscience, mineral resources and reserves, innovation in exploration techniques and applications, as well as health, safety and wellness in the industry. The Analyst conducts research, prepares reports, briefing notes, policy position papers, and responses to government consultations, supporting PDAC’s overall policy and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Member Engagement & Programming

The Analyst engages PDAC members in research initiatives and collaborative problem-solving, while also developing tools, resources, and programming that support the delivery of content relevant to their portfolios, particularly at the annual PDAC Convention.

Outreach & Stakeholder Relations

The Analyst attends industry events to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the minerals industry, government, academia, NGOs, and other communities of interest, helping to advance PDAC’s work in geoscience, innovation, and health and safety.

Project & Consultant Management

The Analyst is responsible for the planning and execution of projects and event programming across the portfolio areas. This includes managing stakeholders, ensuring all deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

Organizational Support

The role provides administrative and planning support for committees and contributes to the development of annual work plans and budgets. The Analyst also maintains and updates key resources, such as the DRE Toolkit and H&S Field Guide and assists with communication efforts including the creation of content for social media and other platforms.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; geology, geoscience, engineering, or a related area.
  • Ideally, a minimum of two years of experience in geoscience, critical minerals, mineral exploration, or mining (preferably in base metals or electric-vehicle-related metals).
  • Strong numerical analysis and proficiency in data manipulation using spreadsheets; ability to synthesize and distill large volumes of information into key priorities.
  • Relevant experience with policy analysis and advocacy related to the mineral exploration sector is an asset.
  • Experience navigating complex group dynamics, particularly with members from diverse professional backgrounds, expertise, and viewpoints.
  • Project management experience, including budgeting and outcome-based evaluations.
  • Basic programming skills (Excel macros, Power BI, etc.) for specific projects such as resource estimation.
  • Excellent written, editorial, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to distill complex information for various audiences.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proven networking and relationship-building abilities

You Are:

  • Proficient in GIS software / freeware (QGIS) and Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Able to conduct effective online research, to analyze large volumes of complex information and synthesize key points.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment and build consensus with diverse groups.
  • A self-starter with strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and producing high-quality deliverables
  • Ideally, has awareness of relevant data platforms such as S&P, Government of Canada, etc.

The PDAC office is located at 170 University Avenue, Suite 800, Toronto, Ontario. The successful candidate will be required to attend the PDAC office 4 days per month.
