Assistant Manager of Operations
Location: Alberta Velodrome – Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, Edmonton, Alberta
Hours: 37 hours per week (evenings and weekends required)
Pay: $25 per hour

About the Alberta Velodrome Association
The Alberta Velodrome Association (AVA) is a non‑profit organization with over 45 years of promoting cycling and community in Edmonton. In October 2025, AVA opened a new UCI‑certified 250m indoor velodrome—Western Canada’s premier destination for cycling programs, training, and events. Our mission is to inspire and empower people of all ages and abilities to experience the thrill of cycling while building a vibrant, inclusive community.
Position Overview
The Assistant Manager of Operations supports the day‑to‑day function of the Alberta Velodrome. Working closely with the General Manager, this role combines operations, program support, coaching assistance, marketing/communications, membership services, and event coordination. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys multitasking, and is passionate about advancing cycling in Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations & Administrative Support
- Support daily operations, scheduling, equipment organization, and overall facility readiness
- Ability to support membership and participant management, including processing, inquiry response, retention efforts, and new program initiatives.
- Serve as Engagement Liaison for newly certified riders, guiding next steps and programming pathways
- Support the General Manager and AVA Board with administrative tasks, including meeting minutes, subcommittee discussions, and follow‑up on action items
- Program & Coaching Support
- Assist coaches with equipment setup, participant check‑in, communication, and track side support
- Support delivery of accreditation sessions, youth programs, club programs, and school groups
- Teach or co‑teach sessions if needed (NCCP certification level dependent)
- Events & Competition Support
- Assist in planning and executing events, including learn‑to‑race days, club events, school bookings, private sessions, and community programs
- Coordinate event logistics (equipment, volunteers, registration, signage, timing support, communications)
- Support the Events Committee in delivering high‑profile national and international competitions
- Liaise with City of Edmonton staff and partner organizations to ensure alignment with facility protocols, safety requirements, and operational standards
- Marketing, Communications & Digital Support
- Help maintain AVA’s digital platforms: website, social media, and newsletters
- Create or support content such as announcements, photos, short videos, and program highlights
- Assist with marketing campaigns for programs, events, and membership initiatives
- Ensure branding, tone, and communication standards are consistent across platforms

- Experience working within municipal, public recreation, or sport facilities, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholder groups (e.g., municipal staff, community partners, sport organizations).
- Comprehensive understanding of sport operations, and participant development pathways.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across all user groups.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time‑management capabilities, including the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Event planning and coordination skills, including logistics for large‑scale sport events e.g., transportation, scheduling, equipment staging, venue setup, accommodations, team coordination, officials, and spectators.
- Digital and technology proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, social media management, and communication platforms.
- Detail‑oriented with a safety‑first mindset, ensuring high standards of professionalism, participant experience, and operational fulfilment.
Qualifications
- Experience in sport operations, recreation, program delivery, events, or coaching
- Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
- Ability to work evenings/weekends and manage multiple priorities
- Experience with marketing, social media, or content creation
- Familiarity with high‑performance or multi‑sport programming
- NCCP Cycling Certification (or willingness to pursue)
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), Police background checks and Safe Sport certifications
