Job description

Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s all-night contemporary event, returns on Saturday, September 23, 2023, and will focus on the theme of Breaking Ground.

There are two programs open to artists: the Independent Project and Open Call Program. Proposals for each program must respond to the annual theme and be located in one of the identified key neighbourhoods. Projects are selected based on artistic merit, feasibility and relation to the theme.

Independent Projects are self-produced, self-funded works that form part of Nuit Blanche Toronto. The projects activate and transform traditional and non-traditional art spaces across the city, which may include the public realm, parks, galleries, storefronts, office towers, streets, sidewalks, etc.

Toronto-based artists, collectives, educational institutions and neighbourhood groups are encouraged to apply. Independent Projects must have a strong visual component, be rooted in contemporary art practices and respond to the event theme.

Interested applicants should read the Independent Project application guidelines , attend a virtual information session if desired and apply online below. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Open Call Projects are works by national and international artists or collectives that have been selected by Nuit Blanche Toronto curators from submissions. These projects are funded up to $11,000 CAD, embedded into key exhibition neighbourhoods and produced by the City of Toronto.

National and international practicing artists and collectives are encouraged to submit applications for the Open Call Program that transform public spaces and engages broad audiences through artistic excellence. They must have strong links to the event theme and a clear artistic vision.

Interested applicants should read the Open Call application guidelines , attend a virtual information session if desired and apply online below. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
