JOB SUMMARY
As a member of Generation Civil Engineering Services team with Engineering and Construction, this position is responsible for providing technical leadership and direction related to engineering design, site evaluation, contract and consultant management for nuclear development using Small Modular Reactor(SMR) technology.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead subsurface site characterization and site evaluation for nuclear sites
- Lead oversight of the structural aspects of the site-specific design for the SMR technology
- Provide structural and civil engineering design services, including technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
- Prepare RFP, RFQs, SOWs for design services and supply and install contracts.
- Provide contract administration including planning, execution, monitoring and controlling cost, schedule, and risk.
- Develop and review functional and performance requirements for the SMR.
- Participate in project definition, options analysis, and feasibility studies.
- Support procurement activities, tender evaluation, and contract administration.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of a new integrated management system that meets CSA N286-12.
- Contribute Civil Engineering expertise for the review and preparation of the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR).
- Contribute to project management plans, cost and resource estimates, and regular team meetings.
- Collaborate with internal management, operation staff, and external consultants in a multidiscipline environment to ensure high quality, constructible design
- Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases, and make recommendations on courses of action
- Provide leadership direction to staff, consultants and other external technical agencies as required
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineering Designation P.Eng.
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- A minimum of six (6) years post P. Eng. relevant experience
- Previous experience working in the nuclear industry would be considered an asset
- Extensive structural, seismic, foundation design and contract management experience
- Experience with geotechnical studies, site surveys, and subsurface site evaluation
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CSA A23.1/23.2/23.3, S16, S6304, CSA N291 and CSA N873.3, NBCC, ACI318, AISC, ASCE 7 etc.)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Broad experience providing guidance and expertise on complex technical issues
- Ability to provide competent leadership, including, coaching and development of technical staff including engineers, engineers-in-training and other resources as required
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
