A First Nation community is seeking a Community Initiatives Coordinator to enhance well-being through various programs. Position Summary

The Community Initiatives Coordinator is a key member of the M’Chigeeng First Nation Health and Wellness Department. This role is responsible for managing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a variety of community initiatives designed to enhance the well-being of community members across all age groups. The coordinator will lead activities such as the annual winter carnival, summer fun days, regalia workshops, moose hunt, historic drone show, and youth and elders’ gatherings. In addition, the coordinator will collaborate with the Health and Wellness Team to plan, execute, and assess new initiatives for infants, children, youth, families, and elders, supporting the department’s mission to foster a vibrant, healthy community.

Note: Department: Health and Wellness Department; Classification/Level: CS-3; Employment Status: Full-Time Term (Date of Hire to March 31, 2027).

Reporting Relationship

The Community Initiatives Coordinator reports directly to the Health and Wellness Department Manager and works closely with program staff, finance personnel, and other stakeholders involved in community wellness efforts.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiative Management: Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate community events and activities including the annual winter carnival, summer fun days, regalia workshops, moose hunt, historic drone show, and gatherings for youth and elders.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with the Health and Wellness Team to identify needs, develop program descriptions, and design initiatives for infants, children, youth, families, and elders.
  • Resource Identification: Determine service and financial requirements for each initiative, ensuring effective allocation and use of resources.
  • Budget Preparation and Management: Prepare detailed budgets for all initiatives and work plans for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 fiscal years. Work with the Finance Department to monitor expenditures and assist with financial reporting.
  • Documentation: Utilize the Caseworks case management system to record program activities, participant engagement, and outcomes.
  • Reporting: Compile and submit monthly and quarterly reports on initiative progress, participation, outcomes, and financial status.
  • Collaboration: Foster strong working relationships with Health and Wellness Team members, Finance Department staff, community partners, and external stakeholders to support initiative success.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in community development, office administration, community event management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in program coordination, community engagement, or event planning, preferably within a First Nation or Indigenous community context.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in case management systems (such as Caseworks), Microsoft Office Suite, and basic budgeting and financial reporting. Experience with working with project management software.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and relationship-building abilities. Capable of working respectfully and effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The ability to handle conflict resolution and mediate disputes within the community.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong project management, time management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of local First Nation culture, traditions, and community services is an asset.
Work Plan and Fiscal Responsibilities

The coordinator will be responsible for developing comprehensive work plans for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 fiscal years, outlining goals, timelines, resource needs, and evaluation metrics for each initiative. The coordinator will be required to develop tools to measure the success and outcomes of all community initiatives. Budget management includes preparing and monitoring budgets, ensuring expenditures align with approved plans, and assisting the Finance Department with financial documentation and reporting.

Reporting and Documentation

Accurate, timely documentation is essential. The coordinator will use the Caseworks case management system to record initiative activities, participant data, and outcomes. Monthly and quarterly reports will be compiled and submitted to department leadership and, where applicable, to funding agencies.

Collaboration

This role requires close collaboration with the Health and Wellness Team, Finance Department, community partners, and external organizations to ensure that initiatives are well-planned, inclusive, and successful. The coordinator will participate in regular team meetings and planning sessions, contribute to shared goals, and support the overall health and wellness strategy of the M’Chigeeng First Nation.

CRC requirement, must be thirty (30) days current and must be an original or certified copy.
