As the national voice for more than 350 member firms and over 3,300 individual leaders, the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association plays a critical role in advocacy, research, education, and community building to advance Canadian innovation, growth, and economic leadership. Amid shifting capital markets, evolving regulations, and global economic pressures, the CVCA is entering a pivotal moment for the private capital sector. It is within this context that the organization is seeking an exceptional and forward-thinking Vice President, Government Relations.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be responsible for developing and executing a national government relations strategy that reflects the CVCA’s priorities in tax, trade, immigration, competitiveness, and securities regulation. Working across federal and provincial jurisdictions, you will represent CVCA’s perspective to policymakers and regulators, monitor evolving legislative and regulatory landscapes, and ensure that decisions enable a competitive, innovation-driven business environment. You will collaborate closely with the CEO, the CVCA Board and will act as the staff lead for the Government Relations Committee and the Private Equity Committee. Finally, you will serve as a key ambassador to elected officials, senior public servants, and aligned stakeholders and will build partnerships with think tanks, policy organizations, and like-minded advocacy groups to strengthen the private capital narrative nationwide.
As an ideal candidate, you are a seasoned and highly credible government relations professional with an established reputation in Canada’s public policy community. You bring a sophisticated understanding of federal and provincial decision-making processes, as well as a strong personal network among policymakers and industry influencers. With excellent strategic instincts, exceptional communication skills, and a collaborative mindset, you are skilled at translating emerging policy trends into actionable advocacy strategies and tactics. You thrive in entrepreneurial settings, are self-directed, and bring maturity, diplomacy, and strong political acumen to everything you do. You are motivated by the opportunity to shape a policy environment that enables Canada’s private capital ecosystem, and the companies it supports, to drive national growth, innovation, and competitiveness. Finally, your proficiency in both official languages will be considered an asset.
