Job description
About the role

As the UK moves away from fossil fuels and increases clean energy generation, which is largely offshore, we need to connect electricity in new places.

Sea Link is a proposed electricity transmission network reinforcement between Kent and Suffolk, via a new, primarily offshore two gigawatt high voltage direct current (HVDC) link.

To bring the power from the subsea cables into and out of the electricity network, we would need to build new onshore infrastructure including converter stations, substations and new underground and overhead electricity lines, as well as upgrading existing overhead electricity lines.

As a Project Supervisor for Sea Link, you'll enact the role of Site Supervisor / Engineers Representative on behalf of the client ensuring that the site-based construction activities across National Grid are efficiently managed in accordance with National Grid policies, procedures and contract. Sea Link has been designed to increase the capability of the network to carry low carbon and renewable energy to two million homes and businesses across the country. That’s a job anyone can be proud of!

This role is based on-site in East Anglia.

Key accountabilities
  • Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is pro‑active in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, not least in managing all safety aspects of the construction‑based activities.
  • Ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks, holding coordination meetings with all contractors on site.
  • Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Enacting the role of Employers ‘Supervisor’ under NEC contracts, and the same role under FIDIC Contracts.
  • Establish and maintain risk based sensible monitoring assurance programs for SHESQ activities.
About you
  • Extensive experience of construction standards especially with regards to Overhead Lines, Substations, Cabling and or Tunnelling.
  • Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
  • An understanding of various Contract forms such as NEC 3 / 4 and FIDIC.
  • Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies.
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Formal training in the following areas: Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Quality Management, Environmental, Contract Terms and Conditions.
  • Familiar with National Grid’s Safety Rules and hold ‘Person’ Authorisation but trained to Competent Person standard, with supplementary authorisations as applicable.
  • Experience of working at 275kV and 400kV is an advantage.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH or SMSTS or willing to work towards.
What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £47,000 - £55,000 - dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
