Job description
Overview

The Fitzwilliam Museum: Opening up the past to transform our futures.

As the principal museum of the University of Cambridge and the largest cultural venue in the region, The Fitzwilliam Museum acts as a crucial bridge between the University, the City and the rest of the world, and has an international reputation for extraordinary research, world class exhibitions, award‑winning public programmes and significant collections spanning many cultures and centuries. The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is one of the world’s leading centres for teaching and research in conservation and heritage science.

Role Overview

The Exhibitions Project Manager is responsible for managing allocated exhibitions and display projects from creative inception through to delivery, across departmental teams and external contributors to an agreed scope and following museum approval stages and reporting procedures.

The Exhibitions Project Manager will be assigned to the re‑display of the Museum’s Italian gallery, part of an AHRC‑funded project Italian Renaissance Objects and Spaces of Encounter (ItalianROSE). They will act on initiative and most often independently to identify key issues and drive through activities to a successful and timely conclusion.

They will ensure these outputs match the Museum’s aspirations and are delivered collaboratively and with rigour, paying close attention to scope, quality, programme and budget. The Exhibitions and Displays team manage a diverse programme of temporary and touring exhibitions and displays or interventions in the collections galleries. The Exhibitions Project Manager works as part of this team and is responsible for delivery of the re‑display by ensuring effective cross‑museum team working, co‑ordinating and securing the contributions of others.

Benefits

In return we offer an encouraging and supportive environment, an attractive pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and many employee benefits such as a shopping discounts scheme.

To help support our staff to thrive both professionally and personally, we have adopted a system of hybrid working, meaning staff are empowered to split their time between in‑person collaboration and remote working. The frequency of remote working may vary due to exhibition needs and will be subject to discussion with your line manager.

Fixed‑term: The funds for this post are available for 9 months in the first instance.

Application Information

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
