Job description

Location: Bristol/Birmingham/South West & South Wales Offices

Job Description

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading multi-disciplinary consultancy firms offering unparalleled opportunities for talented individuals in search of a rewarding career. At AtkinsRéalis, we offer more than just a job. We offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world to benefit future generations and the environment.

Our UK Environment Practice is a vibrant network of approximately 600 people providing world class consultancy and advisory services. We care about outcomes for our clients and the unprecedented challenges they face including climate change, social inclusion and rapid urbanisation. The work we do is important and influential: it shapes the way our clients think, enables them to make better decisions and to deliver their projects in a world of disruption and change.

We are looking for an individual with an excellent track record and practical experience of delivering and project managing EIA projects to join our team. Our current projects include sustainable energy projects (solar, wind energy and hydro-electric schemes) as well as novel fuel production and energy storage projects, major motorway junction improvements and other highways schemes, nationally significant rail projects, master planning at MoD sites, infrastructure and pipeline projects for water companies, including a large reservoir proposal, and coastal defence projects for the Environment Agency.

This is an excellent development opportunity for an experienced candidate looking to progress their career to the next level in a fast paced and exciting industry. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate Environmental Impacts Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in an environmental discipline, is likely to be chartered, and have a comprehensive understanding of all the technical expertise required for the preparation and management of EIAs and the environmental assessment of large infrastructure projects. We offer ongoing career development through a portfolio of training and development activities as well as strong mentoring support designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents.

Responsibilities

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams including EIA, options appraisals and environmental assessments;
  • Project managing teams of environmental professionals;
  • Responsibility for programme and commercial management aspects of projects including budget control;
  • Champion high standards of environmental performance within multidisciplinary engineering projects, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes;
  • Competently undertake own work to an excellent standard, and review the work of others, on time and to budget;
  • Able to manage clients’ needs in a confident, professional manner;
  • Lead on bid preparation and develop new areas of business for the team;
  • Undertake Continual Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with requirements of chosen professional institute;
  • Mentoring and assisting with staff development.

Requirements

  • Degree or Masters in an environmental or science subject;
  • Experience working on the delivery of EIAs for major infrastructure projects;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the UK EIA process and associated legislation;
  • Experience of leading multidisciplinary teams;
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills and able to review the work of others to ensure quality;
  • Able to prioritise and work effectively under pressure;
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate issues and ideas effectively;
  • Be flexible, adaptable and prepared to take on new challenges, including working from other AtkinsRéalis or client office locations;
  • Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes.

What we offer?

AtkinsRéalis recognise that there are many well qualified people who are looking to further their career, but who cannot commit to full time employment. We support flexible working arrangements and are interested to discuss how we can accommodate individual requirements. As part of this commitment, we understand the need for a diverse and flexible workforce, where a work-life balance is important. So, by default AtkinsRéalis offers flexible working, where there is no fixed 9 ‘till 5, no need for a 5-day week, no requirement for a full-time contract, and no requirement to spend all your working time in the office.

Rewards and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary that is regularly tested against other consultants with a default 25-days leave each year plus bank holidays and options to buy some or sell of that leave. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Training:

AtkinsRéalis is committed to developing its people both personally and professionally. Our colleagues have the advantage of access to a high ranging training portfolio and development activities designed to help make the best of individual’s abilities and talents. We also actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.

Additional Information:

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer. If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.

We are committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves, thrive and develop. To help embed inclusion for all, from day one, we offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements and employee networks to support staff from different backgrounds. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and ability.
