The Quality Assurance Team works with stakeholders across the College to ensure that FSBs educational services align with sector-recognised standards and best practice in higher education, as well as other relevant professional accreditation frameworks. The work of the team is crucial to the success of the Colleges partnerships with awarding bodies, as well as its standing with statutory and regulatory bodies.
The role of the Quality Officer is to provide high-level support for college quality monitoring and evaluation activities that assure the effectively delivery of higher education programmes at FSB. They will provide staff with guidance on the correct application of College regulations, policies and procedures.
The Quality Officer will also provide assistance to the Quality Manager with certain aspects of project work or special assignments.
Duties
The core duties of a Quality Officer include:
i. Working with senior management stakeholders to develop key institutional policies and procedures, ensuring that these are congruent with all applicable requirements and best practice in higher education.
ii. Maintaining the register of academic policies, regulations, and other key documents incorporating a review and publication cycle.
iii. Working with heads of departments and associate deans to compile the Colleges internal monitoring reports as part of FSBs academic governance and oversight.
iv. Liaising with the Registry team to gather KPI data for internal monitoring and evaluation,
v. Supporting and servicing key governance committee meetings and events, including the timey circulation of committee papers and minute taking,
vi. Receiving and responding to enquiries about QA and institutional governance, providing clear and accurate guidance (including in areas of ambiguity) to ensure staff are aware of QA requirements,
vii. Liaising with staff to compile information to respond to external enquiries (such as due diligence requests and OfS regulatory F3 notices), and to check the accuracy of this information,
viii. Organising a range of training events, meetings and conferences, involving internal and external contacts,
ix. Managing the QA team filing system and archives,
x. Maintaining and updating the quality departments annual events calendar,
xi. Coordinating the publishing the colleges online student satisfaction surveys,
xii. Liaising with student representatives and Student Union coordinators to ensure students participation in quality assurance,
xiii. Assisting the Quality Manager and Dean of Teaching & Leaning in coordinating and scheduling teaching observations,
The Quality Officer Must Have
Experience of quality assurance in a higher education setting (preferably administrative),
Knowledge of the UK higher education regulatory environment and the role of QA in a higher education provider,
Exceptional written English and experience of preparing formal correspondences,
High level of proficiency in using IT applications, such as MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook),
Good interpersonal and communicative skills, and level temperament,
Ability to independently manage tasks to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of how to prepare meeting minutes and actions,
Good references as required by the colleges HR team.
In addition to the above, all employees are expected to:
Observe clocking-in system of the School
Give advance notice of any unplanned absence (notified to the Quality Manager no later than 8:30am on the day of absence);
Keep up to date with developments of the job area and actively participate in training activities set by the School, ensuring that any mandatory training is completed in a timely fashion.
Undertake relevant CPD activities in accordance with the companys minimum requirement.
Adhere to general standards of conduct set out in FSBs regulations and its Employee Handbook.
Work flexibly and efficiently, maintain the highest professional standards and promote and implement the policies of the School;
Observe all provision for the protection of sensitive information (including personal information), upholding the Schools Data Protection Policy and other policies relating to information governance.
The role involves occasional travel to other sites of operation; this will be with suitable advance notice and with all reasonable travel expenses paid by the Company.
Desirable
Educated to degree-level at 2:2 or higher,
Experience with project management (any industry),
Experience delivering training and giving PowerPoint presentations.
Progression
The role may progress to the position of Senior Quality Officer where the role holder has:
held the position for a minimum of 1 year; and
in the view of the Quality Manager, met performance goals and objectives set through the appraisal process; and
Demonstrated Responsibility And Initiative Beyond The Above Job Description.
This advancement will be at the discretion of the Quality Manager and the Vice Principal of FSB with regard to the level of competence and personal responsibility demonstrated by the role holder. Remuneration will be agreed to reflect the complexity and intensity of the workload.
A Senior Quality Officer may apply for or be nominated to the role of Quality Manager where the position comes available, and where the Officer has demonstrated qualities commensurate with a management role and has successfully acted up in some of the areas undertaken by the Quality Manager
