The McGill University Department of Emergency Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The MUHC operates three adult emergency departments, namely the Montreal General Hospital (MGH), the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH), and the Lachine Hospital. Combined, these emergency departments see approximately 100,000 patients per year. The MGH is a Level 1 trauma centre, handling some of the most critical and severe cases in the province and is a leader in areas like orthopedic trauma, sports medicine, spine surgery, arthroplasty (joint replacement), and orthopedic oncology. The MGH is also known for its adult psychiatric emergency services, receiving over 4,000 visits per year from patients requiring acute psychiatric care. The RVH, located at the MUHC Glen site, is a tertiary and quaternary care centre which houses a multi-organ transplant program, an oncology program (the Cedars Cancer Centre), and several subspecialty surgical programs, including cardiac and vascular surgery. The Lachine hospital is a community hospital that provides essential care to its community.

In addition to providing exemplary clinical care, the successful candidate will play an active role in the teaching and supervision of learners at all levels, including undergraduate medical students, residents, and fellows. This includes bedside teaching, participation in formal academic activities, and involvement in curriculum development, where appropriate. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of academic emergency medicine in a dynamic, high-volume teaching environment.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission and contribute to service and governance activities within their clinical department, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the broader university and professional communities; this includes participation in departmental committees, educational initiatives, and collaborative academic projects.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree, and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the Province of Québec;
• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
• Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
• Have completed specialty training in Emergency Medicine;
• Preference will be given to candidates with advanced subspecialty/fellowship training in domains related to emergency medicine that will contribute to the academic mission of the department, including graduate training in the form of a doctorate (or equivalent);
• Demonstrate a commitment to, and evidence of, high-quality teaching and inclusive pedagogy with a record of collegiality and synergistic collaboration;
• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Québec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
