The project will focus on the physical properties of Bose-Einstein condensates produced experimentally in semiconductor microcavities operating in the strong coupling regime. The quasiparticles generated in these systems are excitonic polaritons that can occupy macroscopically a given quantum state and form a Bose-Einstein condensate. Remarkably, the driven dissipative nature of the system has a dramatic impact on the physical properties of the system. For instance universal scaling laws corresponding to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class can appear in the spatio-temporal decay of the coherence of these condensates, showing that they are very different from their atomic counterpart (closed systems in equilibrium). Jacqueline Bloch and Sylvain Ravets team is conducting optical experiments on polariton condensates and has made pioneering contributions by experimentally observing KPZ physics on 1D condensates. The recruitment of a postdoctoral researcher aims to develop theoretical support for this research.
The candidate will develop stochastic numerical simulations to calculate phase fluctuations in polariton condensates under excitation conditions and with microscopic parameters close to those of the experiments.
The objectives of this project are:
The candidate will work within the C2N experimental team and will thus be able to become fully familiar with the complexity of the experiments and the technical details of the measurements. He or she will work in close collaboration with the theoretical team of Anna Minguzzi and Léonie Canet based in Grenoble.
The candidate must have solid expertise in theoretical physics and numerical simulations. It is highly desirable that the candidate has already worked in collaboration with experimentalists.
