Sanoma Learning’s NPM train is looking for a BackEnd developer to join our vibrant, international team. We’re a group of enthusiastic, friendly, and talented individuals dedicated to revolutionizing primary education. As a BackEnd developer, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering our platform for primary education, used by tens of thousands of teachers and students. You will contribute to innovative solutions that meet the needs of educators and learners alike.

We offer two work models: hybrid (3 days from home, 2 in the office) or remote with occasional visits to our Barcelona office. Work must be performed exclusively from Spain.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Providing technical leadership by guiding development teams on best practices, coding standards, and architectural decisions;
2. Participating actively in the Tech Lead Forum to facilitate communication between Architecture and DevOps teams;
3. Working on Proof-of-Concepts to assess new technologies, tools, and techniques beneficial for architectural goals and customer needs;
4. Collaborating across teams, including Architecture Office, DevOps teams, and Product Management;
5. Translating high-level architectural visions into practical implementation strategies, including effort estimation;
6. Mentoring and growing the maturity of DevOps teams by addressing knowledge or skill gaps;
7. Sharing technical thought leadership with a broader audience.

We seek a candidate with strong technical expertise, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to contribute to system improvements and team success.

Responsibilities include developing and enhancing application features using Python 3.12, FastAPI, PHP 8+, and Laravel 9+ for the backend, collaborating with cross-functional teams, optimizing system performance, and managing microservices with Docker and Kubernetes.

Required skills:

• Proficiency in Python 3.12, FastAPI, PHP 8+, Laravel 9+, and reactive programming;
• Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure;
• Experience with debugging, maintaining, and supporting large-scale live systems;
• Designing and developing microservice architectures;
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases;
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket);
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments;
• Understanding of software design patterns and SOLID principles;
• Fluent in both Spanish and English, spoken and written.
