New Brunswick Social Pediatrics Inc. (NBSP) is a Saint John-based charity committed to improving the health and well-being of children and families facing poverty and adversity. We operate a community social pediatrics clinic, offer wraparound programs for children and youth, and collaborate with families and community partners to address the root causes of poor health and social outcomes.

We are proud recipients of theSaint John Regional Hospital Foundation's Community Impact Award, which allows us to launch a new pilot initiative: placing a dedicated health liaison in two priority community schools to support early identification, intervention, and connection to care.

Position Summary

The Community Social Pediatrics School and Health Liaison will play a vital role in bridging the gap between education, healthcare, and social supports. This position will be embedded withinSaint John the Baptist/King Edward SchoolandCentennial School, working directly with school staff, families, and NBSP's clinical team to support children experiencing barriers related to poverty, trauma, and limited access to care.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a first-of-its-kind initiative in New Brunswick, improving outcomes for children and shaping a model of care that could be replicated across the province.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationshipswith school staff, children, families, and community organizations.
• Identify children and familiesin need of health and social supports, especially those without a primary care provider.
• Facilitate accessto NBSP services, including pediatric care, mental health support, advocacy, and community-based programs.
• Coordinatecase conferences and participate in school team meetings focused on student well-being.
• Act as a health navigatorto connect families with community, healthcare, and government services.
• Support early screening and identificationof developmental, behavioral, and emotional challenges.
• Maintain timely and professional documentationthat supports program evaluation and data-informed decision-making.
• Champion trauma-informed, child-centered approachesin schools and support staff in understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
• Collaborate with NBSP's clinical team(pediatrician, nurse, advocate) to ensure continuity of care and coordinated service delivery.
• Participate in program evaluation and researchto support evidence-based practice and policy development.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Studies, Nursing, Education, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with children and families facing adversity.
• Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Knowledge of community resources and service navigation in the Saint John area.
• Experience in either the education sector (e.g., school settings or school-community partnerships) or the healthcare sector (e.g., clinical settings or health system navigation) is required.
• Confidence and skill in working with children experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges is required.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
• Ability to work across multiple digital platforms is required, including comfort using tools such as Outcome Tracker (Vistashare), email, shared drives, and virtual meeting platforms.
• Lived experience as a member of a marginalized community, including but not limited to experiences of poverty, trauma, systemic racism, or barriers to accessing care, is considered a strong asset.
• Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks are required.
• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
