The Team

At BC Timber Sales (BCTS) in the Seaward‑tlasta (Port McNeill) Business Area, we’re passionate about shaping the future of sustainable forestry. You’ll join a group of dedicated professionals who bring a blend of experience and fresh perspectives to Indigenous Reconciliation and Sustainable Forest Management. We work together to auction a portion of the province’s annual timber volume, providing essential market data that positively impacts communities, public forests, and the economy. You’ll enjoy collaborating with the Seaward‑tlasta Team and Provincial Teams, fostering strong connections with First Nations and Industry Partners in a supportive, community‑focused environment.

The Role

As the Operations Manager, Forestry, you will lead a dedicated team responsible for all Planning, GIS, and First Nations relations activities for the Business Area, ensuring compliance with provincial regulations and best practices. You’ll play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable forestry practices that bring economic benefits to local communities while creating important relationships with local First Nations. Although our Business Area Office is located on Northern Vancouver Island, we have operating areas within the Great Bear Rainforest that are only accessible by boat, helicopter or seaplanes, which can make for an epic workday. Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in resource management, public administration, aboriginal studies or equivalent and five years of related experience.
  • Experience in program administration including allocating resources, leading and coaching diverse teams, supervising staff and in strategic business planning, procurement and financial management.
  • Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders in natural resource management or infrastructure development.
  • Experience with resolving problems through negotiation with stakeholders.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following
  • Experience participating in negotiations with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.

  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
