Job description

Orla Mining is striving to be the emerging gold producer of choice with a geographically diversified asset base, a prospective development and exploration portfolio, an experienced management team with a successful track record, and a high-quality board and shareholder base.

Orla operates the Camino Rojo Oxide Gold Mine, a gold and silver open-pit heap leach mine, located in Zacatecas State, Central Mexico. This low-cost operation is 100% owned by Orla, covers over 139,000 hectares, and includes a large sulphide mineral endowment located beneath the oxide resources. We are also advancing permitting and development on our South Railroad Project, a feasibility-stage, open-pit heap leach project located on the prolific Carlin trend in Nevada. This project is part of our larger South Carlin Complex which includes a prospective land package. We recently acquired the Musselwhite Mine located in Northern Ontario on Lake Opapimiskan, a gold mine with more than 25 years of operating history. The addition of Musselwhite has allowed Orla to more than double our gold production and provide a strategic entry into a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction. The Musselwhite Mine is highly prospective with the potential to expand resources and mine life for years to come.

Orla is building a legacy of excellence, respect, and sustainable value through responsible gold mining.

We are striving to create a net positive benefit for all and leaving a legacy beyond the life of our mines. We do this through building and operating high-quality mines supported and led by an experienced team. We are custodians of the assets we run and the environments in which we operate, and we are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, care, and respect.

The purpose of this role is to mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks while supporting creating value to impacted communities and Indigenous Peoples. This role will report directly to our Chief Sustainability Officer.

Responsibilities include:

· Establish HSE management systems and associated standards (e.g. tailings management and incident management), that comply with legal requirements and are in alignment with industry best practices, Orla's HSE policies, and our Towards 2030 Sustainability Strategy.

· Design and implement a cross-company training plan on health, safety, climate, and environmental management, policies, and standards. Oversee the implementation and regular updates of HSE training in the Company’s sustainability learning platform.

· Provide guidance to sites and support implementing the HSE management systems and standards.

· Monitor the HSE management systems implementation including leading HSE audits of sites to determine compliance with policies and alignment with standards and procedures.

· Provide guidance to sites on the implementation of HSE aspects of certifications such as the International Cyanide Management Institute – Cyanide Code and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), Industria Limpia (Mexico); and other local or international standards as required.

· Provide strategic advice and guidance to the Executive team and site leadership teams on environmental, climate/decarbonization, and health and safety matters including sites programs, staffing, training, and metrics. Support permitting processes as part of multidisciplinary collaborative teams.

· Monitor developments, trends, risks, and legislation related to HSE and evaluate the impact on business operations in countries of Orla's operations.

· Drive employee engagement initiatives and leadership training in environmental, climate, and health & safety matters.

· Lead Orla's approach to climate action, including climate risk assessments, working with sites on strategy development, identifying metrics, monitoring, and external reporting.

· Develop and manage Orla’s crisis management plan, crisis management team, lead training, including simulations for corporate and sites.

· Support enterprise risk management (ERM) and site-level risk management processes regarding climate, environment, and health and safety.

· Support sites on achieving external certifications such as GISTM, the International Cyanide Management Code,

· Define corporate metrics and KPIs, monitor and support performance improvement.

· Prepare internal presentations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, board presentations, on environment, climate, and health and safety strategy, programs, issues, KPIs, achievements, and status of key initiatives.

· Support corporate sustainability-related voluntary and mandatory reporting by monitoring KPIs and providing subject matter expert analysis.

Skills and Experience:

· Post-secondary studies in a relevant field (Environment, Health and Safety), Master’s degree is preferred.

· 10+ years of experience working in Sustainability, Health, Safety and Environment within the mining industry.

· Minimum 10 years of experience as a manager or a higher role.

· Strong knowledge of Environmental management, including incident and emergency management, water, biodiversity, and waste management in mining.

· Proven experience working in Health and Safety management and crisis management in the industrial or resource extraction sector.

· Significant experience in climate change and strategy, decarbonization, and energy management.

· Experience with ESG reporting (TCFD, SASB, GRI, OECD, MASC, TSM).

· Environmental science or management and Health and Safety management certification.

· Management Systems/ Auditor certifications preferred.

· Good computer skills (MS Office and ADOBE).

· Bilingual (English /Spanish) preferred.

· Base Salary: $ 200,000 to $ 230,000 per year.

· Compensation includes competitive short- and long-term incentives and a comprehensive health and pension package.

Work Conditions:

· Travel up to 30% - Mexico, US (Elko, NV), Canada (Ontario, British Columbia), and others as required.
