Our client is a diversified conglomerate headquartered in Dubai with a strong presence across Africa. They have 25+ years of experience in global trade, retail, and manufacturing, with business interests spanning FMCG, pharmaceutical retail, frozen foods, real estate, and packaging solutions.

They are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, planning, and performance management for the retail business in Angola. This role is key to driving operational efficiency, optimizing working capital, and ensuring strong financial controls aligned with the company's broader goals. The CFO will report directly to the Group CFO, overseeing the overall finance and accounting functions at both the corporate and SBU levels.

Short Term Role Objectives

• Understand and improve current systems and processes in accounting, budgeting, cost control, financial analysis; map and standardize across the organization.
• Streamline the accounts and finance department at both the corporate and SBU levels.
• Conduct a thorough risk analysis of the organization and recommend risk mitigation plans.
• Establish capital structure and liaise with subject matter experts to create a strategic plan at group level.
• Mentor finance and accounts teams across SBUs.
• Identify 3-5 key processes that need improvement based on risk analysis and begin execution.
• Develop SBU-wise financial performance analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & Forecasting

• Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the organization's strategic vision, build strategic partnerships, and support growth initiatives. Provide actionable recommendations based on financial projections, revenue and expense analysis, and operational insights.
• Lead the development and monitoring of the strategic plan.
• Develop the operating budget and rolling forecast, monitor Opex / Capex, and analyze variances and KPIs.
• Promote financial acumen and accountability across the organization.
• Develop cost structures for revenue streams and track performance alignment initiatives.

Operations

• Review processes, drive SOP documentation, and implement improvements, including automation and control aspects.
• Review ERP setup (SAP), identify automation opportunities, and recommend improvements.
• Implement cost control mechanisms and review delegation matrices for efficiency.
• Manage cash flow forecasts, escalate issues, and suggest funding strategies.
• Support Business Unit Heads in achieving targets, reviewing performance, and devising strategies.
• Oversee credit control, inventory management, and provisioning.
• Evaluate new business opportunities, conduct due diligence, and prepare feasibility reports.
• Assist in implementing IFRS and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• Oversee daily financial operations, close procedures, and reconciliations.
• Work with banks for funding, coordinate audits, and prepare financial statements.
• Manage tax compliance and strategies to minimize liabilities.
• Identify and mitigate key organizational risks across finance, legal, and operational areas.
• Develop control systems, review audit reports, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
• Drive innovation, stay updated on technology and processes.
• Lead talent acquisition, development, and team building.
• Foster relationships across departments and provide financial insights.

Key Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant (CA) or CIMA (ICWA India); MBA is an advantage.
• 15+ years of senior experience in retail or FMCG, managing over USD 200 million turnover.
• Preferred knowledge of SAP.
• Africa experience is highly desirable.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in financial policies, bilingual in English; knowledge of Hindi and Portuguese is a plus.
