Pele Energy Group is seeking a talented, highly motivated and self-driven Project Manager. The Project Manager will report directly to the Head of Projects (Program Manager) and assist with the scheduling, planning, forecasting, resourcing, and managing technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. The Project Manager is responsible for the engineering and technical disciplines of ongoing projects and will establish inspection criteria for the proper implementation of all the elements of a project.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the execution of one or several IPP plants (utility scale) throughout its life cycle within schedule, budget, and quality (from PPA to COD)
- Oversee and manage project implementation, including project management, weekly site meetings & reports, risk assessment & mitigation and client interfacing, to deliver on-time and under-budget project implementation
- Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of assigned engineering and construction projects
- Formulating project parameters and assigning responsibilities to the most capable employees and monitoring the project team
- Lead the Project on the preparation phase (Pre NTP) including Site team definition, documentation review and validation, procurement of all equipment and subcontractors
- Apply knowledge of all aspects of a project (engineering, procurement, quality control, etc.) to oversee the successful execution of the project plan
- Interacting with clients, interpreting their needs and requirements, and representing them in the field
- Performing quality control tasks on budgets, schedules, plans, and personnel performance and reporting on the project's status
- Understands project cost buildup including gross margin together with risks that may erode margin and opportunities to improve margin
- Ensure proper change control processes are understood and used
- Cooperating and communicating with the project manager and other project participants and collaborating with senior engineers to create more efficient project methods and to maintain the project's profitability
- Reviewing the engineering tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions
- Creating frameworks to measure the project's metrics and data collection
- Ensuring the project's compliance with the applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications
- Understanding of the technical philosophy behind preventative and corrective maintenance
- Technical risk management in accordance with electrical regulatory standards and HSE standards and regulations
- Understanding of Construction procedures and Method statements, Solar and Wind Projects
- Sufficient background and involvement during the operations and maintenance of renewable energy plants (Solar and Wind Energy)
- Good background in REIPPP contracts including Eskom agreements
- Conduct client engagements, pre-feasibility assessments, high level proposal compilation, client presentation, detailed design & costing, compilation of Bills of Quantities and pricing, and final contract negotiations
- Identify tender opportunities and manage technical components of tenders, ensuring compliant submissions
- Conduct engineering technical due diligence
- Manage interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the business needs are met, including key off-grid partnerships & supplier relationships
- Manage internal relationship with operational, investment and research & development
- Where needed, support the Asset Management Engineering team with operational solar and wind plant issues
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- B.Eng or BSC (Eng) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (other streams can be motivated
- Minimum 5 years' experience in project management of medium to large scale projects, coupled with execution of EPC projects
- Ability to oversee and understand engineering design drawings and documentation
- The ability to work with multiple discipline projects
- Excellent project management and supervision skills
- Deep knowledge on Project controls (cost controls, contract management and scheduling)
- Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices
- Ability to manage projects and teams
- People management and engineering experience
- Ability to communicate well at all levels with good presentation skills
- Good Negotiation skills
- Interpreting relevant simulation reports (PV*Sol, PV Syst)
