We're a small, fast-moving team applying technical design and creative interventions to scale renewable energy across developing markets in Africa, namely through our Battery Bank Africa (BBA) service.

Optimized for off-grid energy developers, BBA offers reliable, affordable solar battery leases through our innovative finance, scalable technologies, and remote monitoring tools.

As we scale BBA, we're looking for a versatile data professional who can both build the data infrastructure and extract meaningful insights from it.

This is a foundational role with the opportunity to shape how data is used across the company. Vittoria Technology was founded on a vision to promote energy independence through sustainable clean resources.

As our first data hire, you'll own the full data lifecycle — from building pipelines and managing infrastructure to analyzing data, building models, and helping the team make smarter decisions.

You will be the go-to person for all things data, working cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and leadership staff. This role offers significant professional growth potential.

The majority of our team is based in Cape Town, working remotely most days, with 1 day in the office every other week.

The successful candidate must work independently and proactively to achieve performance goals and organizational objectives. We are looking for a purpose-driven, intelligent, reliable, and detail-oriented team member.

1. Design, build, and maintain ETL / ELT pipelines from internal and external sources
2. Create and manage scalable data storage solutions (e.g., data warehouse, data lake)
3. Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability across systems
4. Collaborate with engineering to integrate data collection into our products and tools
5. Automate and optimize data workflows and processing jobs
6. Analyze data to uncover trends, patterns, and business opportunities
7. Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations to support teams across the organization
8. Develop and deploy statistical models and machine learning solutions as needed
9. Design and evaluate A / B tests and experiments
10. Communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• 2+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics roles
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational / non-relational databases
• Proficiency with Python (or similar) for data engineering and analysis
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Experience with modern data tools (dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery, pandas, scikit-learn)
• Detail-oriented with high accuracy
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Fluency in English
• Personal qualities: integrity, honesty, dedication
• Ability to thrive in a startup environment — problem solver, self-disciplined, ambitious, eager to learn
• Authorized to work in South Africa

• Experience building end-to-end data systems in small teams
• Familiarity with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Metabase)
• Exposure to product analytics, customer behavior analysis, or growth experimentation
• Understanding of data privacy and governance
• Experience with solar power systems, APIs, or data analysis in energy sector

• Salary range in ZAR, commensurate with experience
