Job summary
A logistics management firm seeks a qualified individual for a logistics planning role in Kariega, South Africa. Candidates should have a degree in Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or Logistics and 3 years experience in an automotive manufacturing environment. REQUIREMENTS
- Affirmative Action South African citizen
- Degree or National Diploma in fields of either Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Logistics
- 3 years of experience with logistics processes within an automotive manufacturing environment
- 2 years of experience as a project engineer in logistics planning or an equivalent planning environment
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter who can operate on his/ her own, requiring minimal supervision and able to operate under pressure
- Good planning, organizing and decision-making abilities to meet tight deadlines
- Able communicator with good written and verbal skills
- Proficiency with producing, understanding and interpreting 3D CAD drawings
- Full computer literacy in MS Suite packages (MS Outlook, MS Teams, MS PowerPoint and MS Word. Advanced MS Excel skills required)
ADDED ADVANTAGE
- Experience with SAP systems in supply chain management will be advantageous
- German language proficiency is advisable, but not essential
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, design, develop, and introduce the provision, modification, and maintenance of material handling facilities, transport, packaging, processes, and systems to optimise material flow from source to point of use, supporting production, P&A, and localisation and export projects in achieving their scheduled targets
- Analyse, maintain and control the various logistics planning contracts by liaising with the necessary group departments and external contractors to reduce costs and improve methods of control on an ongoing basis
- Conceiving, preparing and implementing detailed logistics material flow concepts in production and warehouse environments for optimum solutions
- Preparing detailed layouts, drawings and job specifications for specialised facilities or logistics services based on the latest technological solutions
- Conceiving, designing and procuring logistics facilities, i.e. stillages, pallets, dunnages, trolleys, racking, general storage facilities and packaging based on analysis and interpretation of requirements for new projects, production requests or other valid customer requests
- Preparing detailed project plans for coordinating and monitoring projects
- Preparing clear specifications for the RFQ process to obtain quotations from contractors or service providers
- Evaluating or adjudicating quotations and negotiating with suppliers if required to improve/ optimise specification and/ or quotes
- Preparing appropriation requests to justify and secure the release of funds for projects
- Preparing and issuing purchase requisitions
- Arranging for project/ facility/ service acceptance and hand-over by conducting demonstrations of equipment or facilities (e.g. through physical trials)
- Preparation of budget prices to be used for corporate projects, cost studies, parts localisation plans and export projects
- Developing and introducing packaging specifications for production parts
- Consultation with stakeholders, drafting and updating logistics service contract specifications
- Convening and chairing meetings as required with relevant role players to execute projects, functions or tasks
