About the Role

A Petrol Mechanic or Automotive service mechanic repairs various vehicles, like cars and trucks, that have broken down or that need to be maintained. They use their expertise and technical knowledge to identify mechanical issues, perform repairs or replacements of faulty components, and ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.

1. Performing regular vehicle inspection and preventive maintenance.
2. Diagnosing mechanical problems using computerized diagnostic equipment.
3. Changing oils, checking fluid levels, and rotating and balancing tires.
4. Checking and replacing worn-out or bad brake pads and rotors.
5. Repairing or replacing engine components.
6. Inspecting vehicle engines and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
7. Conducting routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts, etc.) to ensure vehicle functionality and longevity.
8. Troubleshooting reported problems and resolving them in a timely manner.
9. Assembling mechanical components according to specifications.
10. Overseeing diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.

1. Brake Checks: Inspecting and sometimes replacing brake pads or discs.
2. Suspension Checks: Inspecting shocks, struts, and bushings (especially in 4×4 shops).
3. Battery Checks/Replacement: Testing and swapping out vehicle batteries.
4. Basic Servicing: Suspension service, and equipment service.
5. Stock Management: Keeping track of inventory, parts, and tools.
6. Customer Service: Explaining issues and recommendations to customers in simple terms.
7. Workshop Cleanliness: Keeping the workspace clean and safe.
8. Tool Maintenance: Ensuring equipment is in good working order.
9. Following Safety Protocols: Using proper lifting techniques and wearing PPE.
10. Fitting of brakes, suspension components.

1. Formal Education:
   High school diploma or equivalent.
   Red seal in mechanics.
   Vocational training or certification in automotive mechanics is highly desirable.
2. Basic Requirements:
   Valid Driver’s Licence.
3. Experience:
   2 -3 years of experience as a mechanic or automotive technician.
   Hands-on experience with repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles.

   Thorough understanding of automotive mechanics, including engine systems, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and other vehicle components.
   Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
   Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and safety protocols.
   Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment.
2. Practical Skills:
   Proficiency in using hand tools and specialized equipment for repairs and maintenance.
   Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
   Experience in repairing and replacing vehicle components.
3. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
   Ability to identify and diagnose vehicle problems accurately.
   Strong problem-solving skills to determine the root cause of issues and implement effective solutions.
   Attention to detail to ensure accurate repairs and prevent future problems.
4. Communication and Customer Service Skills:
   Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to customers.
   Good interpersonal skills to interact with customers and colleagues.
   Ability to explain repairs and maintenance needs to customers in a clear and understandable manner.
