Job summary

Qualifications

Senior Designer, Piping

We are currently based at KL Eco City, Malaysia.

MODEC is seeking a Senior Designer, Piping with strong piping design knowledge and experience to prepare complex engineering and technical drawings for assigned projects. This role may also involve generating original designs to depict layout and equipment arrangements. The successful candidate will ensure all drawings comply with project procedures, standards, and codes, and will support engineers in planning, design, and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare piping layouts, general arrangements, and detailed drawings in 2D and 3D environments.
  • Apply company engineering design standards, 3D modeling, and CAD drafting techniques.
  • Review project scope, specifications, and design criteria to ensure compliance.
  • Produce complete sets of complex engineering drawings, including fabrication and detailed views.
  • Analyze designs, evaluate equipment systems, and generate new product layouts.
  • Develop layout designs using standard references, manufacturer catalogs, and technical guides.
  • Conduct final drafting reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards.
  • Prepare documentation such as Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), design reports, material take-offs (MTO), and system documentation.
  • Ensure drawings include required dimensional tolerances for proper assembly and fit.
  • Create presentation slides and drawings for technical specifications and project proposals.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to design, including printing and transferring drawings.
  • Estimate time and material requirements for assigned work.
  • Guide junior designers and drafters as needed.
HSEQ & Compliance
  • Adhere to MODEC HSEQ Code of Conduct, policies, standards, and procedures to ensure safety and environmental protection.
  • Comply with MODEC Group Policy Code of Business Conduct and Ethics at all times.
Work Relationships
  • Report to the Design Supervisor for resource and corporate matters, and to project engineers for day‑to‑day work.
  • Collaborate frequently with engineers, lead designers, and drafters on assigned tasks.
Job Challenges

  • Adapt to design changes and rework drawings as project parameters evolve.
Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical trade school training or equivalent experience in drafting.
