Job Summary

UCSI Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Library Teacher to manage and deliver an engaging library and information literacy programme that supports students’ academic growth, reading culture, research skills, and lifelong learning habits. The successful candidate will create a welcoming, inclusive, and well-organised library environment that supports teaching and learning within an internationally-minded school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver library and information literacy lessons for Lower and/or Upper Secondary students, aligned with the school’s curriculum framework (e.g., National Curriculum, Cambridge, or equivalent).
  • Teach information literacy skills, including research methods, digital citizenship, referencing, plagiarism awareness, and critical evaluation of sources.
  • Promote reading for pleasure and develop a strong reading culture across the school community.
  • Curate, manage, and maintain library resources, including print, digital, and multimedia materials, to support curriculum needs and student interests.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and activities that support literacy, inquiry-based learning, and independent study skills.
  • Foster a student-centered, inclusive, and engaging library environment that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and collaboration.
  • Support students with diverse learning needs by providing differentiated resources and guidance.
  • Integrate technology and digital tools (e.g., online databases, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, library management systems) to support teaching, learning, and research.
  • Monitor and support student progress in research and information literacy skills, providing constructive feedback where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records of library usage, resources, and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support classroom instruction, interdisciplinary projects, and inquiry-based learning initiatives.
  • Organise and support reading programmes, literacy events, book fairs, author visits, and other library-related activities.
  • Ensure the library is a safe, orderly, and welcoming learning space at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and students regarding library programmes and resources.
  • Participate in professional development activities and contribute to the school’s holistic education initiatives.
  • Uphold the school’s mission, values, and commitment to student well-being and holistic development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Information Management, Education, or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education, B.Ed, PGCE, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching or library-related experience in a school setting (secondary level preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of information literacy, research skills, and library management practices.
  • Effective classroom and library management skills.
  • Ability to engage and support students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Experience working in international or private school settings is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in educational technology, digital resources, and online learning platforms.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and innovative teaching practices.
