The Head of Medical Analytics is responsible for leading the Medical Analytics Section in transforming healthcare data into actionable insights that support quality assurance, policy decision-making, cost containment, and clinical governance.
This role analyses medical, claims, utilisation, and provider performance data to enhance healthcare quality, optimise resource utilisation, identify risks, and support evidence-based decision-making across ProtectHealth’s healthcare programmes and initiatives.
What you'll be doing
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Medical Analytics Section, ensuring analytics initiatives align with Quality Assurance objectives, organisational strategy, and national healthcare priorities.
- Analyse data to identify trends, variations, risks, and opportunities for quality improvement and cost optimisation.
- Deliver data-driven insights to support medical audits, quality reviews, and clinical governance activities, including the identification of inappropriate utilisation or non-compliance.
- Design, implement, and oversee dashboards, scorecards, and management reports to monitor healthcare quality, efficiency, outcomes, and provider performance.
- Translate complex healthcare data into clear insights and actionable recommendations to support Management, Committees, and Board-level decision-making.
- Conduct utilisation reviews, outcome analyses, and impact assessments to support the design, monitoring, and refinement of healthcare programmes and benefit packages.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, confidentiality, and compliance of medical and healthcare data in line with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Medical Audit, Claims, Operations, Finance, IT, and Health Advocacy, to ensure analytics outputs are relevant and actionable.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the Medical Analytics team, building capability, standardising methodologies, and fostering a high-performance analytics culture.
- Establish early-warning indicators to detect emerging quality, utilisation, or cost risks and drive continuous improvement through best practices and analytics innovation.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Health Informatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Health Economics, or related fields.
- A postgraduate qualification (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
- Minimum 8–10 years of experience in healthcare analytics, medical data analysis, health insurance, healthcare administration, or related fields.
- Strong exposure to claims data, utilisation review, provider performance analysis, or healthcare programme evaluation.
- Strong understanding of healthcare systems, clinical workflows, medical coding, and healthcare financing.
- Significant experience in medical analytics, ideally within the healthcare industry
- Strong technical skills in data extraction, transformation, analysis and visualisation
- Proficiency in using advanced analytical tools and techniques, such as statistical modelling, machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to derive meaningful insights from complex data
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to effectively present and translate analytical findings
- Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing analytics teams
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a quantitative discipline, such as data science, statistics or applied mathematics
