Overview of the role
Unlike a standard logistics GM role, this position requires a technical environmental background. You are expected to navigate complex global regulations (like Extended Producer Responsibility) while optimizing "cost-per-ton" metrics and reducing the carbon footprint of the recycling process itself.
As the General Manager with International Trade and Logistics (Garments on Hander) logistics experience. It is a specialized niche within the global supply chain designed to move apparel from manufacturers to retail floors without the need for folding or re-pressing. You will be the strategic leader which combines the overall industrial operations management overseeing the entire operations, P&L, warehouse logistics, business development, managing stakeholders and clients internationally. A leader who can optimize supply chains while championing environmental sustainability from a used garment and trade experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence
Facility Management: Direct daily operations of high-volume sorting and processing centers, ensuring maximum efficiency and throughput.
Scaling Strategy: Design and execute a 3–5 year strategic roadmap to scale international trade recovery and increase recycling volumes.
Technological Advancement: Lead the integration of emerging technologies, such as AI-automated sorting and chemical recycling preparation, to enhance fiber purity and commercial value.
2. Supply Chain & Circular Ecosystems
Upstream Sourcing: Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with municipalities and global retailers for "take-back" programs and waste collection.
Downstream Negotiation: Identify and secure contracts with fiber-to-fiber recyclers, downcycling manufacturers, and secondary clothing markets.
Logistics Optimization: Streamline collection routes and warehouse management systems to minimize the carbon footprint of the recycling process.
3. Financial & Performance Management
Full P&L Responsibility: Manage the departmental budget, ensuring the commercial viability of various recycling streams and optimizing cost-per-ton metrics.
Performance Tracking: Monitor and report on KPIs including diversion rates, contamination levels, inventory turnover, and sustainability targets.
Compliance & Risk: Ensure total adherence to local environmental regulations, labor laws, and international safety standards (OSHA, ISO 14001, ISO 9001).
4. People & Industry Leadership
Team Mentorship: Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team across warehouse operations, logistics, and business development.
Market Representation: Act as a brand ambassador and thought leader at global sustainability conferences and circular economy working groups.
Job Requirements
Minimum 10+ years in logistics operations, manufacturing, or sustainability-driven environments. At least 5 years in a senior leadership role (General Manager).
Bachelor’s degree in business Administration, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Accounting. An MBA is highly preferred.
Deep expertise in Garments on Hanger (GOH) logistics. Technical understanding of textile fibers (natural vs. synthetic) and recycling methodologies (mechanical vs. chemical).
Familiarity with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation.
Proficiency in ERP software and data-driven decision-making.
Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or LEED certification is a significant advantage.
Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is required; proficiency in Mandarin is a plus to manage regional stakeholders.
