Job description
Fish Health Veterinarian – Gerik Farm

We are seeking a dedicated Fish Health Veterinarian to lead disease management, biosecurity, laboratory diagnostics, and applied R&D for our tilapia aquaculture operations. This role requires strong clinical and scientific capabilities, with full onsite commitment at our Gerik farm.

1. Disease Diagnosis & Clinical Management
  • Perform necropsy, histopathology, microbiology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • Lead outbreak investigations and implement rapid containment actions.
  • Prescribe and monitor treatments, vaccines, and other therapeutics.
  • Manage fish health certification, quarantine, and movement documentation.
2. Biosecurity & Health Programs
  • Develop and enforce biosecurity SOPs across hatchery, nursery, and grow-out units.
  • Oversee quarantine, disinfection, and risk-based surveillance.
  • Ensure responsible antimicrobial use and vaccination program integrity.
  • Integrate water quality and environmental monitoring with health management.
3. Laboratory & Research
  • Supervise diagnostic workflows, manage all lab testing from sample collection to pathogen identification.
  • Ensure the lab is safe, clean, accurate, and compliant with veterinary standards.
  • Maintain laboratory biosafety, equipment calibration, and QA/QC standards.
  • Design and execute R&D trials (vaccines, feed additives, treatments, immunostimulants).
  • Analyse biological and performance data to guide evidence-based decisions.
  • Collaborate with research institutions and diagnostic labs; produce technical reports.
  • Interpret diagnostic results and provide actionable disease management advice.
4. Fish Welfare & Environmental Sustainability
  • Promote humane handling, anaesthesia, and euthanasia in line with welfare standards.
  • Optimise environmental conditions through DO, pH, ammonia, and temperature monitoring.
  • Support sustainability efforts, including effluent management and compliance.
5. Training, Communication & Operational Support
  • Train farm teams on disease recognition, biosecurity, and treatment SOPs.
  • Contribute to preparing SOPs, guidelines, and visual health reference materials.
  • Deliver periodic health briefings and cross-department coordination updates.
6. Data Management, Compliance & Regulatory
  • Maintain accurate data records for disease, treatments, and health surveillance.
  • Prepare KPI-aligned reports on mortality, performance, vaccination, and antimicrobial use.
  • Ensure compliance with MVC, DVS, DOF, and certification standards (MESTI, BAP, ASC, etc).
  • Maintain veterinary licensure, treatment documentation, and audit-readiness.
  • Support internal and external audits with complete veterinary records.
7. Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Fish Health Manager from time to time to support operational needs.
Qualifications

  • Strong skills in research design, data analysis, and technical/scientific reporting.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and team collaboration skills.
  • Willing to reside onsite in Gerik and travel when needed.
