A great opportunity has arisen for a senior mechanical engineer to join a leading manufacturing company who supply world-class products to various industries including Oil & Gas / Offshore.

Job Description:

1. Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.
2. Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
3. Generation of ideas for developments and new products.
4. Be responsible for small projects or sub–sections of larger projects.
5. Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001.
6. Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
7. Offsite engineering support for new products.
8. Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
9. Provide customer support.
10. Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.
11. Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
12. Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international regulations.
13. Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
14. Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.
15. Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.
16. Provide Mechanical Engineering leadership and supervision.
17. Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function.
18. Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions.
19. Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.

Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject
2. Structural analysis, scoping calculations and hand calculations.
3. Finite Element Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation.
4. Mechanisms, kinematics and power transmission.
5. Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding and NDT requirements.
6. Good theoretical understanding of material science for subsea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects.
7. Oil, gas and water hydraulics, including sealing systems, e.g. O–rings, seals, hydraulic fittings etc.
8. Assembly methods and maintenance.
9. Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
10. Ergonomics.
11. Completing and checking designs and documentation.
12. Approving designs and documentation.
13. Tolerancing, limits and fits.
14. Drawing layout and symbols.
15. Safety conscious, attentive to QHSE policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
16. Sound engineering knowledge.
17. Cost consciousness.
18. Technical drawing competence as defined above.
19. Technical leadership and motivational skills.
20. Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects.
21. Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
22. Software skills – Microsoft Office Suite, 2D and 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks).

Additional Details:

• 37 hours per week – 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon–Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday (flexi–time is available)
• 25 days holidays and 8 bank holidays
