Job summary

A leading care home provider in Glastonbury is seeking an experienced Lead Registered Nurse to support the Home Manager in maintaining high standards of care. The successful candidate will oversee nursing staff, ensure compliance with CQC regulations, and promote a person-centred philosophy of care. Job description

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the home manager and nurses to promote good practice and provide guidance to new and existing colleagues to support their development. You will also:

Be a positive role model and promote our person-centred philosophy of care to staff, relatives and visiting professionals in order to maintain a consistently high standard of care and support within the home.

Oversee the training and administration of drugs by other nursing staff and care staff.

Ensure that all staff provide care as per care plans that are fully reflective of the persons current health status.

Participate in direct care of residents, essential in order to coach and mentor staff in high standards of nursing care across the home.

Supervise the induction of new staff, be able to give guidance on mentoring for other staff. To encourage staff members to further develop as individuals.

Carry out clinical supervision, mentoring and coaching of senior staff members.

Initiate new ways of working that fully embraces best practice and encourages excellence to flourish throughout the home and the organisation.

Be the person in charge of the home when the Home Manager is absent and carry out on-call duties as agreed with the Home Manager.

Works in partnership with NHS/Intermediate care Somerset to provide care, support, assessment and rehabilitation and will be joining the MDT to continue this exceptional service.

Job responsibilities

Overall purpose of the role:

  • To support the Home Manager in providing and maintaining high standards of health and social care for the people living in the home.
  • To work to maintain compliance across all areas of the home in all CQC outcomes.
  • Have overall responsibility for the clinical care delivered in the home as the Lead Registered Nurse and positively role-model clinical excellence and person-centred care.
  • To work in partnership with the Home Manager and staff team in order to achieve positive outcomes across all areas of the home.
  • To be the person in charge of the home when the Home Manager is absent.

Responsibilities:

  • To positively role model and promote our person-centred philosophy of care to staff, relatives and visiting professionals in order to maintain a consistently high standard of care and support within the home.
  • To proactively manage issues, problem solve and find solutions when complaints or concerns arise.
  • To have an understanding of the CQC requirements relating to the registration of the home The 5 Questions Safe? Effective? Well Led? Caring? Responsive?
  • Responsibility for clinical supervision across the team of Registered Nurses and Unit Care Leaders including addressing areas of concern with practice and recognising/encouraging when good practice is demonstrated.
  • Assessing, planning with the person, implementing and evaluating the support and necessary care needs.
  • Ensure that all Brunelcare procedures are followed and that record keeping is kept up to date. To be aware of and adhere to current policies and guidelines for nursing practice which reflect statutory and NMC requirements.
  • Administer medications in accordance with the medication policy, understanding the actions to follow should errors occur in relation to both self and others.
  • Oversee the training and administration of drugs by other nursing and care staff.
  • Ensure that all staff provide care as per care plans that are fully reflective of the persons current health status.
  • Participation in the direct care of residents, essential in order to coach and mentor staff in high standards of nursing care across the home.
  • Maintain professional standards in behaviour and attitude, take responsibility for your professional development, and be aware of personal accountability in relation to professional practice as stipulated in the NMCs Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To work in partnership with CQC, Health and Social Care, other Healthcare Professionals, Brunelcare Directors and Trustees.
  • To arrange, attend and be part of leading regular staff meetings
  • Initiate new ways of working that fully embraces best practices and encourages excellence to flourish throughout the home and the organisation.
  • Supervision of staff at all times and ensuring that they are fit for duty as directed by the Home Manager in line with Brunelcare policy.
