A local government organization in Portsmouth seeks a Volunteer and Community Participation Co-ordinator to recruit and manage volunteers for a heritage project on D-Day. The role includes coordinating public outreach activities, engaging community groups, and reporting on project evaluations. Strong communication skills and experience in a cultural environment are essential. The position is part-time, requiring a driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Volunteer and Community Participation Co-ordinator - Discovering Hampshire's Hidden D-Day Heritage secondment/fixed term opportunity until October 2026 due to funding.
Salary: Band 7, £32,061 (or £19,236 for 22.2 hours)
22.2 hours per week - days and times to be discussed at interview.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a project around the discovery of Hampshire's Hidden D-Day Heritage.
The Volunteer & Community Participation Co-ordinator will be responsible for recruiting and coordinating project volunteers to undertake a range of activities, and for engaging community groups, charities and residents as volunteers and/or participants in the public outreach programme.
You will be responsible for coordinating the public outreach programme which is Hampshire-wide, including temporary exhibitions, talks, guided walks, and activities with schools, community groups and residents. Working with the Project Manager you will compile evaluation at all stages of the project for reporting to the funder.
With experience in recruiting and managing volunteers and engaging community groups and residents, you will have experience working in a cultural or heritage environment. You will have excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills, strong attention to detail, competent IT skills, and experience working with external organisations and partners. You will need experience in conducting archive research and producing outputs from those findings. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential as you will visit remote locations to support volunteers and community groups. Knowledge of Second World War military history, particularly relating to the 1944 Normandy landings, would be desirable.
