Looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer who will be responsible for providing specialist geotechnical inputs to both onshore and offshore projects, developing engineering scopes for ground investigations, reviewing and analysing geotechnical data (new data and legacy), providing geotechnical interpretation to generate reports and guidance to projects. In addition, developing and reviewing calculations, reports and other deliverables in accordance with the project plan will be required.

Typically, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer works in a specialist role within the Civil and Structural engineering team, coordinating with other discipline specialists and with outside contractors and consultants as required to address all discipline specific requirements within the project regarding foundations, earthworks and other civil and geotechnical works.

Job Description:

Capability to perform hands-on engineering tasks, including design calculations & technical notes as required, and undertake / manage specialist studies and reviews.

Appreciation of multi-discipline engineering design activities and team working to enable progress.

Supporting the project management team in planning and identifying technical issues which could limit progress or impact project strategy, schedule and budgets and assisting in providing solutions.

Ability to perform in wider engineering roles within the Civil Structural Group such as civil or structural engineering aspects would be an advantage. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer is accountable to the Civil Structural Group Manager and /or Project Manager, depending on size and complexity of the Project. Corporate reporting line is to respective Departmental/Group Manager.

The UK Engineering group will support a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon/ Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy projects. They operate a hybrid working model with a mix of office and home working, for our team to develop an effective team dynamic within Engineering.


Your responsibilities:

Will work as a specialist engineer on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design or EPC/ EPCM projects, onshore and offshore.

Will be a subject specialist within the specific area of geotechnical engineering, onshore and offshore.

Additional capability and experience within civil and/or structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage.

Technically responsible within a project for all geotechnical / soils engineering aspects of the project scope of work, including execution of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will coordinate and work with other Kent specialists and 3rd party consultants including supervision, review and specific checking activities as appropriate.

Capable of formulating resolutions to technically challenging and/or high-profile issues and communicating effectively with project engineers, project management and clients.

Undertakes specialist activities or reviews of geotechnical and civil engineering aspects, based on their high level of competency within geotechnical and civil engineering.

Supervises, reviews and checks the geotechnical engineering activities.

Works to the requirements of the Civil/ Structural Design Manual.

Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from the original proposal / contract by raising technical queries and/or identifies trends and changes within the framework of management of change.

Provides construction support, as required.

Participates in engineering design reviews and provides all necessary geotechnical/civil input and support to the close-out of actions

Reviews relevant ITB documents submitted for proposals, and Scopes of Works received from clients as and when required.

Responsible for planning and identifying resource requirements through the project, as applicable to specialism. Liaises with the civil/structural group manager on these matters.

Liaises with Kent Global Execution Centres (GEC), as necessary in execution of specialist role and to develop the project.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Qualification/ Certification:

Masters Degree in Engineering. Post Graduate and/or specialist qualification in geotechnical engineering.

Chartered Status preferred. Related experience working for Engineering/Client organisations in the Oil and Gas sector and/or Low Carbon Energy Transition industry

Skills Requirement:

Experience with well-developed technical knowledge in the specialist field of onshore and offshore geotechnical engineering within the energy, process plant and industrial development project sectors

Hands on geotechnical engineering tools and software skills capability, including; hand calculations, MS Excel spreadsheets, MathCAD, SACS-PSI, L-Pile, GRLWEAP (or equivalents)

Additional capability in civil and/or structural engineering roles and tasks would be an advantage

Excellent coordination, monitoring and supervisory skills

Tactful, resourceful and flexible in resolving issues

Communication:

Good written and spoken Communication skills.

Exposure to consultancy, studies, FEED, detailed design and EPC projects

In-depth knowledge of applicable international and industry specifications, standards and codes for onshore and offshore projects in the UK and worldwide

Knowledge of safety and quality procedures and best practice

Specialist/high competency in specific areas of civil and structural engineering relating to geotechnical engineering; including but not limited to seismic response, shallow and deep foundation design requirements, ground improvement and earthworks in a wide range of soil conditions/ geographies

Provides support to procurement/ proposals including for geotechnical investigations & site surveys: prepares Scopes of Work, technical requisitions, reviews contractor/bid documentation and provides technical bid evaluation support to ensure compliance.

Ensures compatibility and compliance with client specifications and recommends cost-effective/ value added improvements within the scope of client specifications and requirements.

Consults with quality assurance on any issues relating to compliance with Kent’s ISO accredited QMS and project specific procedures, guides and standards.

Supports the civil/ structural group manager in maintaining technical / specialism competence within the discipline and quality of delivery on projects.
