Join our dynamic team at BEYOND INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS as a Substation Automation System Engineer. In this full‑time role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and supporting automation systems within electrical substations. You will be a crucial part of ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of substations in the power grid, contributing directly to the stability and security of electrical networks.
Develop and implement substation automation systems (SAS) for medium and high voltage substations.
Design and configure SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), and protection relays.
Select and integrate appropriate communication protocols like DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus, and OPC to ensure interoperability between different system components.
Define and implement control and protection logic for automation systems, ensuring optimal system performance.
Configure, test, and commission substation automation equipment, including SCADA systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices), and other control systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve any hardware, software, or networking issues during installation and commissioning.
Ensure that the system operates as designed, meeting safety, reliability, and performance standards.
Provide ongoing technical support for the automation system, diagnosing issues and providing solutions to minimize downtime.
Perform preventive maintenance on automation equipment and software updates.
Monitor system performance and recommend improvements or upgrades to enhance reliability and efficiency.
Coordinate with project managers, electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure timely and cost‑effective completion of automation system projects.
Maintain project documentation, including system designs, configurations, test results, and commissioning reports.
Monitor and analyse the performance of automation systems and suggest optimisations.
Implement cybersecurity measures to safeguard substation automation systems against potential threats and vulnerabilities.
Ensure compliance with local regulations, industry standards, and safety protocols.
Provide training to operators and maintenance teams on the operation and troubleshooting of substation automation systems.
Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including operation manuals, schematics, and standard operating procedures.
Work closely with other engineers, technicians, and utility personnel to ensure smooth operation and integration of the automation system into the wider electrical grid.
Generate reports for system performance, troubleshooting incidents, and maintenance activities.
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or related field. Fresh graduates encouraged to apply; training will be provided.
Proficiency in substation automation technologies, SCADA, RTUs, IEDs, and protection systems.
Strong knowledge of communication protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, etc.).
Experience with PLC programming and configuration.
Knowledge of electrical protection schemes and relay settings.
Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity standards and practices.
Experience with automation software (e.g., Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB).
Competency in software tools for design, simulation, and testing (e.g., MATLAB, ETAP, DIGSILENT PowerFactory).
Ability to use configuration tools for IEDs and other automation devices.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills to interact with technical teams and clients.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
Certification in electrical protection systems, automation, or control systems (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric certifications).
Willingness to travel to field sites for commissioning, maintenance, or troubleshooting activities.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
