A mining company in Malaysia seeks a senior engineer to review mine plans and production schedules. The candidate will ensure compliance with safety regulations and mentor a technical review team. A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering and at least 8 years of industry experience are required. Strong expertise in mine design and software proficiency are essential, along with excellent communication skills in English and Malay. This role involves working in remote areas under challenging conditions.
Review and technically assess proposed mine plans, layouts, and production schedules submitted by licensees to ensure optimal resource extraction and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Well versed with the mining process to effectively monitor compliance of the licensee's operations, including drilling, blasting, excavation, and transportation, against approved standards and best practices.
Lead and mentor the internal technical review team and providing expert technical guidance.
Collaborate with other internal departments, including geology and ESG, to ensure integrated planning and comprehensive due diligence.
Review feasibility studies, mine design, and cost analysis to determine the technical and financial viability of new mining projects.
Monitor and evaluate mining operations and performance through site verification and report review.
Ensure compliance of all licensees with safety and environmental regulations and sustainable mining practices.
Prepare detailed technical review reports and policy recommendations for the State Government and SMM Board regarding mining projects and operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 3 years in a senior engineering or technical review role.
Strong expertise in mine design, planning, and operations review, including open-pit and underground mining techniques.
Proficiency in mining software such as Surpac, MineSight, Arcgis or similar tools for reviewing submissions.
Knowledge of Sabah’s mining regulations, environmental standards, and safety practices.
Strong leadership and project management skills, with a proven ability to lead technical teams and multi-disciplinary project reviews.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Malay.
Ability to work in remote areas and adapt to challenging field conditions.
