Job description

The Senior Lecturer will be a pivotal member of the academic team, responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, advancing impactful research, and contributing to the administration and leadership of the pre-clinical medical curriculum (typically Years 1 and 2 of the medical degree). The successful candidate will demonstrate academic leadership, innovation, and excellence in their field, shaping the next generation of medical professionals.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
  • Design & Deliver: Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, practical classes, and assessments across core pre-clinical disciplines.
  • Curriculum Leadership: Lead the planning and execution of modules or integrated course components within the pre-clinical phase.
  • Student Support: Serve as a personal tutor, mentor, and academic advisor to medical students.
  • Innovation: Incorporate modern teaching methodologies such as Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Team-Based Learning (TBL), and digital educational technologies.
Research and Scholarship
  • Research Portfolio: Establish and maintain a robust, externally-funded research program in medical or biomedical sciences.
  • Publications: Produce high-quality, peer-reviewed outputs in leading national and international journals.
  • Supervision: Guide postgraduate students and mentor junior faculty in their research endeavors.
  • Funding: Proactively seek and secure competitive research grants.
Administration and Leadership
  • Service: Undertake significant administrative responsibilities within the Department or Faculty (e.g., chairing committees).
  • Quality Assurance: Lead activities related to accreditation, curriculum review, and academic quality assurance.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to Lecturer-level staff, research associates, and teaching assistants.
  • Strategic Contribution: Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the Faculty of Medicine.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications
  • Medical qualification (MBBS/MD) with a relevant postgraduate degree (e.g., MSc, MPhil, specialty training), OR
  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant biomedical/pre-clinical science (e.g., Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry).
Experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching pre-clinical medical students at university level.
  • Strong record of high-quality research and publications commensurate with a Senior Lecturer role (e.g., consistent output, H-index).
  • Experience in curriculum development, review, and accreditation processes.
  • Proven academic leadership and administrative ability.
