Job summary

A leading fintech company in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a compliance officer to focus on AML/CFT activities. The candidate will review suspicious transactions, conduct customer profile assessments, and support the drafting of AML policies. An ideal applicant will have a relevant degree, 2–4 years of experience in compliance, and strong analytical skills. The position offers opportunities to monitor high-risk accounts and collaborate closely with regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–4 years of relevant experience in AML/CFT compliance, ideally in fintech or banking.
  • Strong knowledge of AMLA 2001 and BNM AML/CFT Policy Documents.
  • Certification in AML/CFT is an advantage.

Job description

Review system-generated alerts for suspicious transactions and potential money laundering or terrorism financing (ML/TF) activities – to work together with Transaction Monitoring team.

Investigate unusual transaction patterns and elevate cases for further analysis or reporting.

Conduct reviews of customer profiles during onboarding and periodic review cycle.

Perform EDD on high‑risk customers, including PEPs and non‑residents, in accordance with internal risk‑rating models.

Conduct periodic reviews of existing customer and merchant profiles based on their risk classification (low, medium, high).

Monitor high‑risk accounts for changes in behavior, transaction patterns, or adverse media hits.

Ensure updated documents, risk re‑assessments, and red flags are addressed and documented promptly.

Support customer re‑verification and risk re‑scoring initiatives.

Policy and Procedure Development

Support the drafting, review, and updating of AML/CFT policies, SOPs, and risk assessments.

Ensure policies are up to date with the latest regulatory changes and typologies.

Keep internal stakeholders updated on evolving AML/CFT risks and typologies.

Regulatory Compliance and Audit Support

Assist in regulatory examinations or internal audits relating to AML/CFT.

Maintain documentation and records to support audit readiness and compliance reviews.

Sanctions and Watchlist

Screening Perform name screening against internal and external watchlists (e.g., OFAC, UN, BNM list).

Investigate and clear potential matches and elevate confirmed hits appropriately.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of relevant experience in AML/CFT compliance, preferably in fintech, EMI, banking, or payments.
  • Strong knowledge of AMLA 2001, BNM AML/CFT Policy Documents, and relevant international standards (e.g., FATF).
  • Familiarity with AML systems (e.g., screening, transaction monitoring).
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice‑to‑Have:

  • Certification in AML/CFT is an advantage.
  • Experience dealing with e-money products, remittance, or digital financial services.
  • Prior exposure to working with regulators (e.g., BNM) on AML/CFT matters
