Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking a Safety Relief Engineer I to evaluate overpressure protection systems and develop Safety Relief Reviews. The ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, and strong communication skills. Responsibilities include participating in risk assessments and leading pressure relief system analysis efforts to ensure safety in process facilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Previous experience as a Process Designer / Process Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical teams.

Job description
Safety Relief Engineer I
1. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Main function: Responsible for evaluations of overpressure protection system
  • Develop unit & flare Safety Relief Reviews (SRRs), which is an engineering evaluation of the safety systems that keep our process facilities safe performed in support of capital project development or consulting for a manufacturing site
  • Propose cost‑effective mitigations for SRR findings.
  • Participate in Risk Assessments with Process Safety & Risk
  • Support sites in maintaining evergreen Unit & Flare Models
  • Perform and/or lead pressure relief system analysis in support of projects and site activities.
  • Responsible for delivering efficient and accurate process safety studies and solutions
2. REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Previous experience as a Process Designer / Process Engineer in the oil, gas, or petrochemicals industry
  • Knowledge of Process Design fundamentals with respect to safety, including, overpressure scenario identification and sizing relief devices
  • Familiar with API520/521 and API2000.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
  • Fundamental understanding of distillation tower, pump and compressor operation and performance
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and email systems, strong administrative coordination abilities, customer service experience
