Job summary

A prominent Malaysian construction firm is seeking a Certified Safety and Health Officer to oversee compliance with safety regulations and enhance workplace safety. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA 1994, FMA 1967, and DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health) requirements.
  • Liaise with government bodies such as DOSH, DOE, BOMBA and local authorities on safety and health matters.
  • Maintain and update all statutory documents, permits and safety certificates.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the company’s Environment, Safety and Health Policy, objectives and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, inspecting equipment and processes to make sure they are safe and do safety audits.
  • Do risk assessments and possible safety hazards of all aspects of operations. Identify potential hazards, access the risks in company’s premises and determining necessary control measures to assure employees safety.
  • Identify unsafe conditions / behaviour, breaks in regulations and practices. Recommend corrective actions and verify implementation.
  • Safety Training Program & Awareness. Safety inductions, toolbox meetings and safety training programs for employees and subcontractors.
  • Promote safety awareness through campaigns, posters and briefings.
  • Sharing information, suggestions, and observations with project leadership to create consistency in safety standards throughout the operation team and the entire company.
  • Established safety and health committee, act as Secretary of the Safety and Health Committee, supporting and participating in safety and health meetings, programs and initiatives.
  • Investigate accidents, near misses and unsafe acts; prepare reports and recommend preventive measures.
  • Maintain accident/incident records and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct emergency drills and ensure readiness of firefighting and first-aid equipment.
  • Prepare monthly safety reports, statistics, and presentations for management review.
  • Maintain proper filing and documentation of all safety-related records. Documented & service ESH, document such as report, HIRARC, safety policy, JSA, Incident & equipment records.
  • Liaise with government authorities such as DOSH, BOMBA, DOE ensure all report are submitted on time.
  • Keep abreast of current safety regulations, trends and best practices.
  • Finding the best way to prevent future accidents.
  • Focusing on prevention by keeping up with equipment maintenance in operation dept.
  • Creating safety plans that include suggested improvements to existing infrastructure and business processes.
  • Undertakes project work or assignment or ad hoc job-related matters or any other duties as and when assigned/requested by the management from time to time.
Requirements
  • Certified Safety and Health Officer (SHO) with Green Book from NIOSH.
  • Certified OSH Coordinator and experience in handling MyKKP.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years’ experiences or equal position in environment, safety and health management.
  • Proven working experience in a safety and health role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
  • In depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence a diverse team with a focus on safety.
  • Knowledge and experience in handling environmental, health and safety related issue.
  • Good report preparation and interpersonal skills with internal and external parties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve safety objectives.
